I y -- Order in Agriculture for Young Workers under 16 years of age restricts employment of persons of that age group in certain farm occupations such as machinery operation. Such persons can be exempted from the restrictions of this order by being certified to have completed safety training programs. Given the high number of farm accidents in the state in recent years it would be beneficial for all youth to receive safety training if they intend to engage in the Hazardous Occupations. As noted, however, the 14 - 15 year olds who are employed in these occupations must have received the required training and certification. The only exception to this is a very narrowly defined group who may work directly for their parents on a wholly jbance Company & Employers must be sure of these requirements and certification of their employees in this age group. Utah State University Extension has put together certification materials and a training program. A training program will be offered through the Vocational Agriculture Department of Richfield High in cooperation with USU Extension and Sevier County Farm Bureau.
