Kathleen Lloyd Venoy Curtis enjoyed a birthday dinner last weekend when his family came dow n to help him celebrate his birthday with dinner and a birthday cake. Visiting with him and helping him celebrate were his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Earle Severance, Sandy; son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Curtis, also of Sandy. Mr. and Mrs. A1 Peterson enjoyed having Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nelson, of Murray visit them. They all attended the Centerfield Old Folks Paity and Dance on Saturday. Visiting Ked Nielsen were his sons, Jason and Jordan Nielsen, of Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Nielsen and son, Dane, from Provo, also visited with their father, Ked Nielsen. Felder Ben Sorensen, son of the late Jerry Sorensen and Mickey Sorensen returned from the Morristown, NJ Mission, where he has served for two years. Many family members traveled to Salt Lake City to the airport to greet him upon his return Welcome home Ben! Congratulations to this fine young couple. Many Aurora Women enjoyed attending the Womens Conference last Saturday at the Salina Stake Center. Theme was Life Means More in Living Color. Keynote and speaker was Deanna Edw-ardtwo workshops were held by Leisel McBride and Jcannie Inouye. Manti and Sanpete County was So once called Little Denmark. was Brigham City and Hyrum in Cache Valley. Manuta, just east of Brigham City was referred to as Little Copenhagen. It seemed the influx of people from Denmark came in bunches to these communities. Many of the early settlements in the Sanpete area were referred to as Little Sweden, Little Norway, and Little Denmark because of their Scandinavian settlers. Little Berlin was affixed to many of the settlements that contained a goodly number of German immigrants, among them, Providence in Cache Valley. Wcilsville was once Little Switcalled Little Wales. zerland was tacked on to settlements such as Midway, whose people came from the country The Fishlake Forest has joined Dixie National Forest in defending against a lawsuit by environmental groups to stop predator control measures. The suit, filed by the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, seeks to halt lethal means of coyote control, especially shooting the animals from aircraft and helicopters. The regional forester of Dixie National Forest upheld the right of the Forest Service to continue the practice. The SUWA then filed suit in federal court to stop predator control action. Decision on the case is expected about May 1. Fishlake National Forest Supervisor Toby Martinez said a similar appeal was filed against that agency., and decided that the Dixie and Fishlake forests could fight the problem better 9 Branch ever in Bangladesh. Visiting Mrs. Jean Jensen was her grandson, Lloyd Gold, of Sandy . working together. Andy Godfrey, Fishlake Forest information officer said the decision will set a precedent. One of the most pleasant names in the Sevier Valley area was - an early name for Aurora. in compliance with the act, groups seeking a halt to predator control would have to seek a legislative change in national policy. Forest officials now require stockmen who have grazing permits to show they are being economically impacted by predators before control measures are ordered Martinez added that any proposed predator control is being challenged and that There are rumblings that legislative decisions will have to be made. He added that Fishlake Forest will live by the decisions and that the agency wants to work in the best public interest. Five requests for predator control measures have been received by the Fishlake Forest this year, according to Martinez. Three met Forest Service requirements. The responsibility for control measures lies with the federal Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). Mark Bosshardt, son of Susan Bosshardt, was presented his Certificate of Graduation from Primary on Sunday, by Bishop Mickelscn, and was sustained to the office of a Deacon. Jeremy Hampton, son of Keith and Patsy Hampton was advanced to the office of a Priest. Spending some time at the home of David Grey has been their daughter. Martin Jensen, son of Brent and Mary Lee Jensen , and Zeke S usman , son of Patty Susman, are home during spring break. Randi Deem spent the weekend with Keith and Palsy Hampton. Randi is Patsys niece. State FFA Convention was held in Cedar City this past weekend. Their FFA Advisor is Randy Several FFA members from Redmond attended. Lance Mickclsen played on the 2A all Star Basketball Team this past week where the 2 A beat the 1 A team. Coach David Grey coached the Basketball team Girls 2A All-Stin Monroe. Newton, 95, passed away March 21, 1992 in Tremonton, Utah, of causes incident to age. Bom January 7, 1897, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to Hans Peter and Hilda J. Jensen. She married Edgar Leon Newton, June 11, 1917; solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple April 23, 1977. He died August 24, 1983. Nora was reared in Mt. Pleasant and Manti. She attended Wasatch Academy, and Brigham Young She taught school in Academy. Mountain Home, Utah. During her married life, she lived in Mona, Glenwood, Monroe, and Salina, Utah. She was a mother, homemaker, and supporter of her husband and the schools where he taught. She was active in community affairs, literary clubs and church. She taught in Primary and Relief Society. She loved playing Bridge, working in her yard, and in earlier years, camping and fishing. She is survived by two sons, a daughter, and their spouses, Sammy and Myra Newton, Bicknell; Riley and Lois Newton, SLC; Gary and Three new babies have arrived in Redmond in the past few w ccks. Speaking of Birthdays, the Relief Society held its 1 50th birthday celebration T uesday evening. Society of Sisters was the theme. It was attended by both Relief Society Sisters and their partners. Two skits were presented to show the difference in Relief Society then and now. Sons were presented by sisters and refreshments were served. It was a well attended evening and a fun experience. A few of our youth traveled to Richfield this week to attend the Fireside put on by Steve Young. The Jr. Prom was held Saturday evening. Amid a sea of beautiful young women in formats and handsome young men in tuxedos, a good time was had by all attending. He was bom November 21, 1923 in Bradley, Oklahoma, a son of Samuel and Mary Etta Persingcr Garcia. He married Genevieve Whctsel November 26, 1947 in Elko, NV. He served in the U.S Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He is a member of the American Legion Post 105, of Centerfield. He lt was a locomotive engineer for Copper for 33 years, retiring in 1980. He moved to Centerfield in 1 982 and prior to that was a resident of Lark, Utah. He loved to hunt and fish. He had lots of friends and enjoyed visiting with them. His greatest pride and joy in life were his 528-794- Quig Nielson d. 529-735- Dee Sorensen - Bcmitta Mccham enjoyed a visit from her sister Jeannette Coons and daughter Kalleen of Sandy last Monday. Marcia Kjar represented the Stake Relief Society a delicious turkey dinner was served to about 50 persons. The Relief Society Presidency presented a skit about Relief Society narrated by Julia Sorenson. Talks were given by Phyllis Cowley, Lynn Sorensen and LaPreal A song Olsen. Charity Never Faileth was sung by Julia Sorenson, Joan Newman, Essie Sorenson and Bemilta Mccham. Johnson Wesley L.eRoy Johnson, 92, of Orem, passed away Monday, March 16, 1992 at his home of causes incident to age. He was bom March 28, 1899 in Aldrich, Utah a son of Elias and Electa Mott Johnson. He married Verda Christensen. She passed away. 1 le later married Pearl Hunter Davis and she later passed away. He was educated in the Aldrich schools and lived most all of his life in Fayette. He was a farmer and rancher. He was active in community affairs and was a member of the Leroy 529-345- presented by Mirth Burr. It was a lovely day for all attending. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Bird left on February 26 to go to Manila for four days then to Bancock Thailand for four days, and then to Dakarta, the Capitol of Bangladesh.
