Specially invited guests were residents whose properties border Main Street, and farmersranchers with property on either side of town on the county sections of the Aurora road, SR-2Mayor Larry Cosby told the group that the main reason the transfer was needed was because of the dramatic increase in heavy truck traffic and number of motorists using the Aurora road from SR-5- 0 to the Interstate. If the road was turned to UDOT, maintenance and repair would be done by the state, as well as having snow removal in the winter. The plan would also include curb and gutter inside city limits, and sidewalks could be added in the future, the Mayor added. In order for UDOT to accept the proposal, Aurora City must gain y of 66 feet on the road through the city limits, then 84 foot rights-of-wa- y on county properties at the north & south ends of town going to old 89 and SR 50. This all must be completed before the takeover could begin. Mayor Cosby said that the city y already has the 66 foot through the city limits, and felt that nothing within the city would have to be disturbed. There could be some areas in the city where some changes might have to be made in the canal system, however he felt these changes would be few. 4. right-of-wa- right-of-wa- Spring garden- - in Price 50 Cents There are several properties where the 66' would take 5 to 6 feet of property, necessitating removal of fencing and trees, etc, as well as moving fire hydrants, and private water meters. Mayor Cosby has said he will consult with Sterling Davis, of UDOT, and then let the landowners know what must be done in those cases. Sterling Davis of the Utah State Department of Transportation, was on hand for the meeting, and agreed with Mayor Cosby that not much within the city limits would be affected. He noted that a study had found that most of the obstacles in the way of the proposed road widening in the county sections of the roadway , existed on the east side of the road. This meant that most of the adjustments will have to be made on the west side of the roadway. In the county area, the road would have to be moved 18 feet to the west. Davis noted that if the state took over the road there would be a lot of work needed to bring the road through the city up to state stanI estimate it would cost dards. $200,000 to $300,000 per mile, or well over $1 million, he added Several residents asked about the old road going past Cox Rocks and joining with the freeway a few miles further down. Davis said the reason this road couldn't be maintained by the state Continued on Page 2 Coach Craig Gladwell 2A Coach of the Year Coach Craig Gladwell, of Salina, has been named the 2A State He Coach of the Yearfor 1990-9will receive his award at halftime All Star Game to be of the 1A-2played Friday, March 22, at Murray High School.
