COAL PROJECT FOR IPF - Skyline - load-ou- t Fri.Aug.30th dedication held The Intermountain Power Project i (IPP) is causing a rippling effect coal demands in the area. I With a proposed 4.4 million tons of coal to be used annually, or an equivalent of 12,000 tons daily, several mines in this area have already contracted to provide coal to the power plant. Coastal States Energy Company, Getty Minerals Company, Getty Minerals Marketing, Inc., United States Fuel Company, and Tower Resources Inc. are the companies invovled with current coal con- ' on tracts. Last week a train loadout facility dedication was held at the Coastal-Gett- y Skyline mine, located in Eccles Canyon. It boasted such capabilities as 30,000 tons storage, 6,000 tons loading capacity per hour, a three-stag- e sampling system meeting ASTM specifications and a weighing system that can weigh 20 to 110 tons on a certified scale. The coal will be trucked from the Skyline mine approximately two miles down the canyon to the loadout facility. From the truck dump, which can unload 750 tons of coal per hour, the coal is transport- at the IPP plant by truck with the remainder to be transported by rail. New aluminum 52,000 pound capacity rail cars were constructed to increase tonnage capacity, and extend life of the cars. Rapid discharge bottom dump cars will empty in 20 seconds. Mine, IPP, and railroad officials, along with political dignigaries, and members of the press were present at the grand opening ceremony held of the coal to be used at the site on Thursday. Remarks were heard from Glen Zumwalt, Vice President and General Manager of Utah Fuel Co., Skyline Mines. Leo C. Smith, President of Coastal States Energy and J.D. Spaulding, Vice President of Coal Operations of the Getty Mining Co., also spoke. Remarks were also heard from Ron Rancher, General Manager of Street dance in Salina IPP. Vernal J. Mortensen, Vice President of Coastal States Energy Company, and David D. Hansen. Deputy Lieutenant Governor representing Governor Bangerter. After the tours and ribbon cutting, a luncheon featuring the steaks of Ken Payne was served to those attending. The computerized facility is of the most advanced found in the United States, and General Manager Ron Reece praised the efforts of companies as well as politicians and government workers for working together and allowing for the facility to open. Lt. Governor David D. Hansen was delighted that such a facility was constructed in Utah in a time when the coal market was A Street Dance will be held Friday, August 90th, on Salma's Main Street. Music will be provided by 'Justice', and dancing will begin at 9 p.m. The dance is sponsored by the Salina Chamber of Commerce, and is the 2nd of two annual dances, the Chamber hopes to sponsor each year. They report that the dance will be held in conjunction with a dance at Stigg's, south of Salina. One ticket will allow admission to both dances. A planned conveyor link between the mine and loadout will allow the facility to reach its designed feed rate of 1,500 tons per hour. This conveyor will discharge into the existing system. Skyline coal is reclaimed from storage silos at a rate up to 6,000 tons per hour, and passes through a sampling, batching and weighing system in the loading building above the tracks. Both trucks and trains can be loaded here by a single operator. A unit train of up to SKYLINE TRAIN LOADING FACILITY; Last week's dedication of the Skyline Mine facility for loading coal into trains bound for IPP, was a day long affair. Dignitaries from Coastal Corporation, state government, mine officials and others addressed the group, and tours of the facility were conducted. The loading facility is now operational 100 cars can be loaded in less than two hours by this facility. The Skyline coal project is a joint venture of Coastal States Energy Company and the Getty Mineral Resources Company. Coastal is the mine operator. Coastal is also the owner of SUFCo Mine, which also has a coal contract with IPP, and is presently planning the installation of a long wall to better compete with coal pricing. I LOAD OUT FACILITY: Skyline Mines new load out facility is one of the most advanced in the nation. The computerized facility can load 102,000 lbs. of coal in less than one minute.
