A (Off An Expert ffffXff on-ar- Every community throughout the United States has its quota of loafers. In many of the communities men are found as members of the "sons of rest" club, but right here in our town of Salina the club is comprised of young boys, ranging from 14 to 18 years of age. Daily these "sons of rest club members congregate on the street and idle the time waiting for a meal or seeking some mischief anything in their minds most but the thought of education and the attainments of a higher standard. It is repoited that there are some twelve or more boys, all eligible for school students, who are not even registered at the high school. There are few, also, it is said, that should be in daily attendance at the grade schools. There is a law that governs the attendance at school of boys and girls of the required age. Why is it, then that the boys, who should be in school, are permitted to become a nuisance by loafing on the streets. The influence, too, of the loafers, is proving disasterous to the young men in school. Temptations are made for the students and some times the boy who wishes to educate himself and become a business man of the world is led estray. We wonder if the young men who are spending their time in idleness, neither seeking an education or showing an ambition to become a worker of some sort, ever gives the future a thought. What can his plans be. Does he expect to be a dependent on some onei throughout his life? Or is his thoughts just for today and for today only. Does the parent ever consider what is best for the If not, it is time they were awakening to the fact boys and girls? that they are largely responsible for the future of their boys and girls and if they will lend the cooperation that is due, then, and only then will the boys and girls grow to be manly men and women. A prominent Chicago banker, and who is reputed to be one of the shrewdest farm; managers in the whole United States, has predicted that there will be an overproduction of wheat in the United States during 1925. This banker-farmethrough a study of many months, advises wheat growers, to weigh with the utmost care, his wheat planting, and he cites the fact that the European countries are planting as never before. If the same' is done in the United States, it is bound to create an oversupply and a demoraliz ed price for wheat. In our own district the man who owns a farm should plan! sugar beets. Of course, the plea will be that the crop last year was a failuie and there is risk in again planting sugar beets. There is not nearly the gamble in beet planting as there is wheat. Because the beet growers knows exactly what he is to receive for his crop In wheat growing there is a chance of overproduction and a over production means downward prices. The beet grower knows wha he is to receive when he signs his contract. Normally the district covered by the Gunnison Sugar Company, is declared one of the best sections in the west for beet growing. Unfortunately last season the crop was practically a failure, due to climatic conditions But this condition prevailed practically in every quarter of the United States, and too, a scientific study by experts shows that i bumper crop always follows in the wake of a drouth year. All the ants he has ever seen are creepers, and he asks when. If ever, an ant takes to the air. The Times makes the following explanation: When an ant colony Is hatched, some of the members are sexless and become food gatherers, nurses or warriors. These, as a rule, are wingless. Others are males and are kept In the nest and carefully nursed to maturity. Still others are females and are likewise supported by the workers of the colony. The males and the females have wings, which they use at the mating season to fly away from the nest. The nuptial flight of ants Is a familiar midsummer sight. It lasts hut a few hours.
