Clark Evans and Homer Fenn, two Salina boys, barely escaped death Wednesday afternoon when the car in which they were riding plunged over the embankment in the Sevier River canyon. The boys were proceeding up a dugway in the canyon and going slowly, according to the statements, and in some manner one of the wheels struck a rock, throwing the car over the bank. The auto plunged for a distance of about fifty feet down the canyon and into the river below. Fortunately the young men were thrown from the car and escaped death. Both Evans and Fenn were taken to Marysvale where first aid treatment was given and Dr. Merrill of An of this city answered a call. examination showed that Fenn had received a deep gash on his forehead which rendered him unconscious for more than an hour. Waldo Nielson, the attorney from Richfield, accompanied Mr. rneson to the meeting . The main object of the convention was a discussion of the road from Price to the Colorado line and Grand Junction, a stietch of more than 130 miles, of which about 45 mileg go through Emery county and 85 miles through Grand county, both these counties sparsely populated and with but little taxable property, so they cannot do much for the roads. To safeguard the interest of Carbon county, this county will come to the rescue with some money and the state road commission promised to send some machinery and some men to that road to biing it into passable condition. Grand Junction is for tourist travels sake quite anxious to have this road in condition as the use of it, if from Price westward the Salina canyon road is taken, the trip to Los 'Angeles is shortened more than 200 The Salina canyon road is miles. as an alnow officially recognized ternative route, the other route be- The auto camp grounds at the city park will be made more attrac-- , tive and the accomodations will be materially increased, according to plans now being mapped out by the members of the Ladies Literary club and the Commercial club members. Two ovens to be used by the visitors for cooking purposes will be installed and more lights will be added if the program ia carried out. In addition to this the city will supply wood and water and every inducement will be offered to have the transcontinental travelers, tourists and any others who would avail themselves of the city's generosity to stop over. A delegation from the Ladies Literary club applied to the city council for the privilege of installing the ovens and there was no objection offered. It is understood that the city will add the new lights and that all will cooperate in making Salinas camp ground one that will draw the visitors. From inquiries received at the headquarters of the Pikes Peak highway, and from information sent from Salt, the tourist travel through Salina this year will be heavier than ever before and it conservatively estimated that fully 15,000 cars will pass through. Many of the travelers will stop over and in doing so it will mean the expenditure of thousands of dollars for supplies and these will be purchased from the local merchants. For the purpose of keeping the camp grounds clean and sanitary, certain regulations will be asked of those who avail themselves of the generosity of the city.
