Your sugar. factory, your undeveloped agricultural lands, the water, climate, your schools and churches, make a combination that is certainly inviting. This was the expression of Walter H. Olin, supervisor of agriculture for the Denver & Rio Grande Western railway company, with headquarters at Denver, following a visit over the valley last Friday. Mr. Olin came here purposely to study the agricultural conditions with a view to aiding in giving the valley greater prominence and incidentally to encourage a greater production. Dairying, hog raising, truck gardening, poultry, grains and intensive farming, and the raising of sugar beets will put every farmer in the valley on easy street, if followed. Your valley is ideal for hog raising and when it is known that the Salt to , ship Lake markets are hogs in from Nebraska to supply the demand it is time Utah farmers were awake to the situation and work to the end to keep that money in the state. Do hogs pay? Only recently a big shipment of hogs were trucked from Loa to Sigard and sold at a big profit. I am somewhat disappointed that your farmers do not raise at least 5000 acres of beets for the big factory at Centerfield. Your factory is a real asset and every farmer should support it to the extent of supplying sufficient beets to keep it running to the very limit of capacity and time. When you raise beets it is not for the factory alone, but for a profit for the farmer. Beet growing will prove the money crop and when you get your factory in a position where it will be able to make long runs, you are doing a big thing. The price of beets will be strong, and those in the field this year will surely offer no regret. There is room for many settlers in the Gunnison Valley.
