In Indiana, Tle Tax Commission, in addition to having con trol over the amount of revenue to be derived form taxation, alsc controls the issuance of bonds and the letting of contracts for public This commission claims to have saved the tax improvements. of Indiana more than $9,000,000 in the 18 months follow payers ing the passage of the law creating the commission, in March 1921. This same Tax Commission gives numerous illustrations of specific savings to the taxpayers of various municipalities as a result of this centralized authority. In several instances bond issues have been proposed; the, taxpayers were made to believe that the money would come as did "manna" to the Children of Israel and that it would place no additional burden on them, the taxpayers. When the illusion was discovered and the facts finally presented to them, they immediately withdrew the petition for the bond issue and willingly went about their duties without the contemplated improvements rather than add to their already heavy tax burden. Wm. A. Hough, a member of this commission, has said: "You fix budgets until you go tlind; you can place tax limitations in may your laws that aint; you can limit your levies, you can limit the operating capacity, but it will do you absolutely no good until you have vested in some discretionary power the right to pass upon these levies and to pass upon the indebtedness which townships and cities and counties seek to create." Some are inclined to believe what Mr, Hough says, and they are wondering if something along that line should not be investigated, and if found practicable, put into execution in Utah. The taxpayers of Utah are invited to give expression to their thoughts on this subject. First then, everyone should see La Mas-cbecause Mr. Terry will present it. Another point to be considered in ot this entertainment is the fact that the Richfield high school always has a large number of splendid singers, many of whom have been trained. No one who has attended the operas given by Richfield in the past have ever been disappointed in either so loists or chorus. Besides, their local orchestra measures up well with any in the state. For these reasons everyone will enjoy this opera especially well. Another point in favor of The Mascot is that it has long been counted one of the best every written in both libretto and music Besides the numerous points already mentioned in its favor, the most important one remains.
