V Yy Volume 5 S ALINA, No. 22 UTAH, FRIDAY NOVEMBER 3, 1922 lie-Cnii- g Is A The republicans held a rous- ing rally in Salina Monday night and much enthusiasm was shown by those present when the principles of the republican party were exhorted by German E. Ellswarth, District Attorney N. J. Bates and others. In addition to the splendid address made the audience was treated to some splendid campaign songs by the Republican Glee Club of Sevier county. S. M. Jorgensen, candidate for representative, acted as chairman of the meeting and introduced German Ellsworth. Mr. Ellsworth has been a member of the National Republican committee for many years and he has been closely associated with the history and work of congressmen for more than twenty years and during that time has watched closely the work of individual senators. The people of Utah should be proud of the work of their senator, Reed Smoot, for congress of the United States does not hold a more capable man than he, said Mr. Ellsworth. Senator Smoot has done more for your stale than any senator ever sent to Washington and you can make no mistake when you elect a man that will with him in doing big things not only for the state of Utah, but for the entire United States. Mr. Ellsworth dwelt at length on the tariff issue and other national At State An elaborate Halloween and masquerade ball was given at the opera house Tuesday night by the Mutuals of the two wards in Salina. The hall was filled to its capacity with ancient, modern, unique and fantastical characters who apparently had no acquaintance with each other. The .orchestra Dragon together with the weird decorations gave a tone of suspense and mysetry to the scene. After the grand moonlight waltz, in which all mysetrious characters participated, prizes were awarded to Mrs. Chester A. Myers, who represented the cat woman, and to Miss Lydia Larson, who played the part of Uncle Tom. Another character who received honorable mention was Miss Lucile Ditjevsen, who impersonated Topsy so perfectly. The officers of the Mutual served luncheon; they also conducted the most successful party of the season. Judges of Election Those who will serve as judges of the state and county election to be held next Tuesday, November 7, are as follows. For district No. 14 Joseph A. Anderson, A. S. Crane and P. J. Nielson.- - District 5 T. Peterson, Carl Forshee and W. H. Brown. The polls will be opened at 7 oclock in the morning and will remain open until 7 oclock at night.
