The Fillmore District Office of our activities. the Bureau of Land Management, which administers the federal range lands in this area, has, during the past years, been advocating the multiple use of natural resources. The Bureau of Land Management District Office at Fillmore, Utah, has the administrative responsibility for some 5 million acres of federal range lands in Utah, Iron, Sanpete, Sevier, Juab, Beaver and Millard Counties. These lands provide forage for 33,580 cattle; 470 horses, and 220,000 sheep under grazing license and permit; 20,000 deer; 800 antelope; 200 elk, and 100 head of wild horses during all or portions of each year. This provides the means to harvest the forage resources off the federal range Chairman flamed For Mental Health Fund Drive Effort lands. In addition to this, several sites within the Fillmore District provides ideal areas for recreation in the form of hunting, camping, and sightseeing. Cedar posts and Christmas trees in considerable numbers, are removed each year from federal range lands. In order to maintain the multiple use of these resources, there Howard L. In the field of wildlife management, the Bureau of Land Management devotes a considerable amount of time to deer and range trend rides, pellet group transsects, and wildlife utilization studies.. During the past year, new studies have been introduced by the. Bureau of Land Management, which seem to indicate that better information will be available in the future for formulating wildlife management plans. The Bureau of Land Management is now considering the development of recreation and picnic areas on some of the more suitable sites, and construction of access roads to open up previously inaccessible areas. This plan has been considered in regards to camping and picnic areas to accommodate projected population increases, and access roads for increased hunting. Since National Wildlife Week is Charles A. Boynton, Jr., president of the Utah Association for Mental Health, today named Howard L. Blood as campaign chairman for the 1961 fundraising campaign in Utah. The Bell Ringer Campaign for Mental Health will be launched Mental Health Week, April 30, 1961, and will continue throughout May. Mr. Blood is Public Relations Director for the Mountain States Telephone Company. For the second year, the slogan of the Mental Health Campaign will be Next, Lets Conquer Mental Health. We are continuing to use this slogan, explained Mr. Blood, because mental illness is the nations number one health problem. Public support has made it possible for science to conquer many diseases... If the public will get behind this effort, we can rid mankind of the scourge of mental illness, too. Events will be staged in the Snow College Auditorium, because of the superior facilities it affords. Approximately 175 students will be participating in the various events, which will include radio announcing, retold stories, humorous and dramatic readings, pantomines and one-aplays. Schools all the way from Bryce Valley to Juab will be represented. The fact that 36 contestants have entered a single reading event indicates that interest is running high. Eleven one-aplays will be presented from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., following which an award assembly will be presented. Manti High School will present an award to best actor and actress. Snow College will present two tuition scholarships and a subscription to Theatre Arts Magazine. Mr. Cannaday states that Saturday's event cluminates s i x weeks of planning and preparation, and invites the public to attend.
