Of the total, $249 07 was taken in at Moms Cafe Day, Sunday; $90 00 from radio pledges; $27.00 from the sale of a calf at the Salina Auction; $20 00 from coffee sales at the Day & Nite Cafe, and $16.43 from coffee sales at the Salina Drug and Barretts Market. Members of the Salina Jaycees assisted by the Salina Fire Department, carried on the kitchen and dining room duties at Moms Cafe, with all facilities donated by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Onest Nielson. Food donations were received from Dairy, Table Queen Bread, Coca Cola, Andersons Food Center and Barretts Market. Cooks donating their work were Kathy Nielsen, Ruby Shelton, Laurene Scott and Merideth Johnson. The waitresses donated both their time and tips. Superintendent Lamont Bennett, assisted by Francis Gurney, member of the school board, gave an over - all picture of school finance. It was explained that Sevier schools are allotted $5,800.00 per classroom unit. A classroom unit consists of 30 students. The high cost of students being absent from school was also explained by Supt. Bennett. He stated for each student absent, $1.02 per day was withheld from the alloted classroom unit. This high cost explained the importance of keeping the children well and at school. It was explained by the isitors that negotiations were underway to purchase property in Salina for a new elementary school plant. Actual construction, however, is not seen fo the next twm to three years, it was stated.
