Show jnivc" Corpo;j Avcnuc 141 - THIRTY-NINT- H YEAR SAUNA, SEVIER COUNTY, At the recent Junior Livestock Show and County Fair, ten members of the North Sevier Chapter of Future Farmers of America exhibited and won distinguished honors. .Probably the most outstanding award went to Bill Peterson, when he showed the grand champion fat lamb of the show. The lamb was placed in the high spot after much comparing and consideration by Judge Darrell Mathews of the College of Southern Utah. This will be the third high spot for Bill in his showings this year. He showed one of the top ten lambs at the Intermountain show in June at North Salt Lake, and received a Master Stockman Award. He then showed the grand champion fat lamb at the South Eastern Livestock Show early in August at Ferron. At the Richfield show. Bills lamb was bought by the Rainbow Cafe and Radio Station KSVC for $1.55 per pound. Other top honors of the show went to John Jorgensen, who showed the grand champion Suffolk ewe, and to Rhett Dur-fe:ith the grand champion Chester White Boar, a tremendous 800-l- b animal, as noted by the judge, George Henderson of Utah State University. Rhett and Bardette Durfee garnered a pair of trophies in winning the fitting and showmanship contest with swine. Clell Bagley of Aurora, showed breeding and fat Suffolk sheep, placing high, and to prove his ability in sheep production, won second place in the fitting and showmanship contest in the sheep division. Allan Thorsen, a new comer to the show ring, won blue and red ribbons on his Suffolk sheep entries. A perennial shower of grand champions, Stuart Johnson, was in the Prime rating with his fat Hereford calves, and came in for final showing for the top honors, but lost out to Richard Dastrup of Sigurd. Bill Peterson also showed in the fat cattle division, and placed second in fitting and showmanship. Verr Don Durfee, along with his brothers, was in the blue ribbon class with Chester White and Yorkshire breeding swine. In the County Fair division, two chapter members won honors. Lamar Curtis received three blue ribbons on barley with his entries of Velvon, Trebi and Bonneville sheaths. Marvin Curtis was given a red ribbon on his sugar beet entry. A very outstanding accomplishment by chapter members is that of the team winnings of the chapter livestock judging team, composed of Verr Don Durfee, Bartley Curtis and Bill Peterson. This group received their third trophy in as many years for top honors in livestock judging. This group will be gunning for their fourth trophy next year in the Young ' Kf NO. 5 UTAH, AUGUT 30, 1957 North Sevier Youth Win Honors At So.
