Prows outstanding civic Parent-Teache- and business leader of Salina, died Tuesday morning in the Salina Hospital from a cerebral hemmorhage, Mr. suffered October 10th. Prows had been in good health until stricken last week. He was born December 25, 1892 in Kanosh, a son of John d Thomas and Mary Louise Prows. He came to Salina with his family when a young man. November 12, 1914, he married Etta Izola Long in Richfield. Following their marriage, the couple homesteaded a plot in Loss Creek, and the area is still known as Prows Dry Farm and Spring. In the early 1920s, Mr. Prows started working for A. J. Crosier at the Sevier Valley Mercantile, and worked up in that business to manager and a partnership. In 1941, he sold his interest in the Merc., and founded the Salina Auction Company. He later sold the auction company, now operated by Morrill Robins and Sons. Plans were started in 1944 under the supervision of Mr. Prows and son, Dail, for the Salina Processing Plant. He managed the plant, and saw it develop into one of the major industries in the Southern Utah area. The holdings in the processing plant were sold in 1954 to the Utah Poultry and Farmers Cooperative. At the time of his death, he was treasurer and assistant secretary of the Pacific Gas & Oil Development Com- pany, and chairman of the Industrial Committee of the Salina Chamber of Commerce. Always interested in civic progress, Mr. Prows donated a large portion of his life to helping build the area. He served on the Salina City Council when a young man, and was mayor of the City from 1949 until 1953.
