Gates, is the leader. With IX Corps, U.S. Army In Korea By SFC. Tom Banks. It was Sunday morning in Korea. There was fighting as usual on the IX Corps front Big guns were booming, and shells were pouring into the Communist front lines. In a wide valley below, machine guns occasionally chattered. Then from atop one of the highest hills in Korea came the strains of the hymn, O Ye Mountains High. A group of Mormon soldiers were holding itheir weekly Sun- day services. Since tney have no Mormon chaplain, the men of the 213th Armored Field Artillery Battalion have taken it upon themselves to conduct their own services. They have managed to hold some form of Mormon worship every Sunday since they first boarded ship to come to Korea. Most of the credit for the organization can be attributed to three men, 1st Lts. Leland H. Tuft of Murray; Paul Grimshaw of Cedar City, and Sgf Lloyd DeMille of Parawon. They have worked diligently to give the members of the battalion the nearest thing possible to regular Mormon services. Lt Tuft was ordained a Service Leader before leaving lor Korea. He had previously served as a Mormon missionary. The enthusiasm demonstrated by the 213 th, has inspired other Mormons in the IX Corps zone to similar religious efforts. A conference will be held In the near future to bring Mormons together from all over the central front. The purpose of the meeting will be to coordinate services, so that they will all have an opportunity to attend Sunday services. DEER AND DUCK HUNTERS ri SMOOTHNESS!
