Naval Air Sta- tion, Whidley Island, Washing- ton. 90th Birthday Mrs. Ira Rasmussen and Mrs. Hilda Gates were in Salt Lake City, Sunday to attend a family gathering to honor the 90th birthday of their mother, Mrs. Olena Larsen Evans. The home of Mrs. Evans, at 1030 Kensington Ave., was the setting for the party. The advanced age of Mrs. Evans is no handicap to her. She enjoys life, she enjoys singing, learns many of the new songs, and delights in singing for her friends. At one time, she was a member of the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir, and leader of choirs in her native land, and outstanding in musical circles wherever she has lived. Born Sept. 2, 1861 in Denmark, she came to the United States in 1883, the family first settling in Elsinore, where she married Louis Larsen, November 3, 1883. In 1901, the family moved to Salina, and to Salt Lake City in 1923. Mr. Larsen died the same year. In 1930, she married Morgan Evans, and he died in February, 1951. Mrs. Evans has 10 children. They are: Mrs. Rasmussen and Mrs. Gates of Salina; Louis, Bill and Odel Larsen; Mrs. Ray Jensen of Salt Lake; Mrs. Olivia Peterson, Santaquin; Mrs. Amy Reid, and Gilbert Larsen, Riverside, and Orville Larsen of Los, Angeles, California; 43 grandchildren and 30 Close friends and relatives from Elsinore, Salina, Manti, Ephraim, called at the open house Sunday, and beautiful flowers and pretty gifts were presented to Mrs. Evans, in honor of her birthday. |
