Ted married Berley Hickman on June 1, 1931 in Richfield, Utah. They farmed on Gooseberry. He has spent most of his years to date working the Gooseberry land, which his father and uncle homesteaded. He and Berley moved from the ranch in the 30s, but Ted is still employed as a stockman and farmer. Ted and Berley have a son, Don, who lives in Granger, and is in the construction business, and a daughter, Darla Young, who lives in Kearns and is a beautician. Ted is proud of his daughter-in-law- , Lois, and Harry Young. He loves Don Scott his grandchildren, Bird, Linda Bird, and JoAnn Bird, Shellie Halkyard, Jullie Halkyard, and Tamie Halkyard. They are all a great help and comfort to their grandfather. Ted suffered a great loss on July 20, 1972, when his beloved wife, Berley, passed away. It was sudden and a terrible shock to Ted and his family, but he bore his lot bravely and with determination to carry on. Ted and Berley were a very compassionate couple, always aware of the less fortunate people whom they knew. They were united in their concern for anyone who needed help. They were always there with a helping hand. Compassion and concern did not end with Berleys passing. Ted is still as interested in people and continues rendering good deeds when he is needed. Many people are recipients of his and Berleys tender loving care. An good deed was the day a flood hit the Salina Creek a few years ago, flooding Lynford and Lula Andersons home. Ted rushed down and got Mrs. King, Lula's invalid mother, and took her up to his home before the flood hit. This is only one example of his true concern for people. Ted has begun his 26th year as a U.S. Weather Observer in Salina. Not everyone understands or knows about this. A reading is taken at 6 A.M. and 6 P.M. 365 days a year. The reading is used in the Space Program as well as local and national weather forecasts. For an undetermined period of time, but for many years, Ted has given his weather report to the Salina Sun. His only compensation for his work is the satisfaction of his own efforts. He recently received a pin from the U.S. Government for his service and loyalty to this project. Happy birthday greetings go out to Ted, a man with a big heart and a soul filled with love . and compassion for his Happy birthday. He felt that a joint venture should be possible without hindering his personal investment in the Monroe Hot Springs. It was mentioned that Sevier School District has a well permit which is recorded with the State of Utah. At this time, Mr. Mecham proposed a land exchange. A similar proposal was made approximately two years ago. He shared a map showing locations of property owned by him and property owned by Sevier School District.
