Show VMM Thursday March 1st Board Of Education Meets Tentative notes of action taken by the Sevier Board of Education at their regular meeting held February 22, 1973, The meeting was held at North Sevier High School at 8:00 A.M. All members of the Board of ' Education were in attendance, . (President William s. Green- wood, Myron Madsen, Dr. Kenneth Glover, Dan Manning, and Robert Nielson) as were Superintendent Lelend D. Teeples; Samuel D. Ware, Director of Business Affairs; and Richard L. Bell, Curriculum Director. President Greenwood presided over and conducted the meeting. The invocation was offered by Roger Nielsen, Principal of North Sevier High. The Board then met with the faculty to become better acquainted. Future building needs were discussed, as were general student behavioral problems. The faculty was then excused. Mr. Manning made the motion that the minutes of the previous regular meeting held February 8, 1973, be approved with corrections. Mr. Madsen seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously. Mr. Nielsen, Principal, then met with the Board. He shared information concerning the controversy between North Sevier High School and Piute High School and conflictsbetweenthe two basketball team sin December. He indicated that he had presented the case to the Region Seven Board and it appeared the problem between the two schools could now be resolved. He also mentioned briefly information concerning experimental attendance policies being implemented by the faculty at North Sevier High. He was thanked and excused. Jack Walters, area repre- sentive for the Utah Education Association, met with the Board concerning Grant Mogle, past employee of the Sevier School District. He mentioned that Mr. Mogle has requested , , legal assistance from UE A concerning the termination of his employment with the Sevier School District in 1972. After considerable discussion, Mr. Walters was thanked for his attendance and was excused. A discussion by the Board resulted in a motion by Mr. Manning that Superintendent Teeples be authorized to investigate and seek legal counsel concerning Mr. Mogle and UEA for the Board to consider at the next meeting. Motion was seconded by Mr. Madsen and passed unanimously. Richard Bell, Curriculum Director, shared with the Board essential information concerning different attendance policies that South Sevier High School and North Sevier High School are desirous of utilizing on an experimental basis. It was decided that a single attendance policy can be formulated for use by the schools in the near future. Mr. Bell was thanked and excused. A motion was made by Dr. Glover and seconded by Mr. Madsen that South Sevier High School and North Sevier High School be authorized to proceed on an experimental basis with a single attendance policy to be formulated for adoption in the near future. Motion passed unanimously. A motion was made by Mr. Manning and seconded by Mr. Madsen that the Board reconsider previous Board action concerning the Districts Self-FiInsurance program. Superintendent Teeples was authorized to make necessary contacts to determine fire insurance premium costs on buildings in the district and to report his findings to the Board for consire deration. Motion passed unanimously. After a short discussion, a motion was made by Mr. Madsen and seconded by Mr. Nielson that the Sevier School District act as fiscal agent for the Service Cooperative Board for the year as has Agency 1973-7- been fiscal 4 requested the Cooperative by Service Agency. WAYNE BADGERS: The Wayne Badgers, the smallest school In Region enjoyed a fine preseason, but with the likes of North Sevier, South Sevier and Richfield, have had a disappointing division record. However, with Joe Brown averaging 19 points a game, the Badgers beat 8 score in Wasatch Academy for Round Robin spot by a 69-4- 8. JUAB WASPS: Although Juab has had the best overall record of competing teams, the Wasps have been erratic in league play. The none strength in the Wasp team lies in overall balance. Although of the starters are listed among Region scoring leaders, Terry Wood Kay, Marvin Allred, Craig Park, Kerry Yates and Clark have led the Wasps offensive attack on different nights throughout the season. Kim Sperry and Pat Painter have also had great shot a nights in reverse. This overall balance gives Juab good of winning at least the AA bracket in the tourney. AA MANTI TEMPLARS: A With the loss of several seasoned starters last year including big Jim Erickson, the Templars figured tobedown this year. But in recent weeks, the Templars have been coming strong with key wins over North Sanpete and Juab. Reed Cox provides the leadership both tn rebounding and in scoring for Manti. Despite this, however, the Wildcats are in third place in the tough Southern Division behind only North and South Sevier. At the Round Robin, the Wildcats have the phisical capabilities to make it tough on the other AA favorites Juab and Manti. Matt Thalman is the leading scorer1 for the Wildcats with a 16-- 5 average. He advised farmers to order their seeds well in advance of (two to three months before) planting. He noted that some seed suppliers are strongly pushing the seeding of 20 pounds per acre.
