Show AN OLD SOLDIER SPEAKS BIM lists Areas Open To Gutting Xmas Trees Along the Western Front in France The roar of guns is heard no more . The rattle and the clang of tanks No longer shake the valley's floor; But, on the hillside, row on row Of crosses stand in silent ranks, And at their feet wild flowers grow To mark the graves of fallen Yanks. Full fifty years have come and gone Since Belleau Wood and St. Mihiel ' And in the forests of Argonne Where the war was won with Yankee steel The victory won at frightful cost -And by courageous deeds displayed -For those who died, Alas! was lost Thru worthless treaties, loosley made. Old soldiers who - in callow youth -Went forth to fight in World War One, Have lived to learn the bitter truth: The War, for them, had just begun! ;As maggots breed on filth, they found iThe war they fought, "to end all wars", Served only as a breeding ground For discord, hatreds and more wars. For families who want to gointo the foothills and cut their own pinon pine Christmas trees the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Utah again this year has designated several areas where BLM employees will be stationed on certain dates to issue permits. However, BLM- - administered areas generally are in sections and the nearest free Christmas tree location to Salt Lake City is at Wattis, Carbon County about 135 miles away. Robert D. Nielson, BLM state director for Utah, said more than 3,000 permits were issued last year for Utahns to cut their own trees. BLM makes no charge but permits are limited to one per fomily. Persons wanting to cut their own trees should go prepared for difficult conditions, Mr. Nielson pointed out. Tree cutting areas usually are reached via unimel proved roads and chains or drive may be necessary. In addition, a tree may have to be dragged a considerable distance from where it is cut. Tree cutters are urged to protect signs and other property. They must cut in designated areas and not trespass on private lands. And state law requires that each cut Christmas tree be tagged, Mr. Nielson added. BLM district office addresses, areas where pinon pines may be cut and dates and times BLM employees will be in those areas to issue free permits and tags are as follows: Cedar City, 154 North Main Street: Coal Tipple, eight miles south of Cedar City on county road to Kanarra Mountain, December 6 and 13 between 9 a.m.and4p.m.; also Summit Canyon, two miles southeast of Summit, Iron County, for which permits will be issued at the district office during regular joffice hours. Fillmore, 10 East 5th North: Approximately three miles east of U.S. Highway 91 on the South Creek Road, about two miles south of Beaver, December 6 and 7 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Kanab, 320 North 1st East: Contact the district office during regular office hours for permits . less-popula- Wars in which their sons have died. In this novel, based firmly on the Old Testament narrative, Jean Rees has given us a satisfying and intriguing picture of Jacob, progenitor of the great race of Israel. The book is enriched by careful research and vivid description of the life and customs of Egypt and Palestine. The story covers a wide canvas, distinctive characters, theirs -hopes and despairs, passions and dangers woven into a fascinating pattern, the central theme .of which is the complex and frustrated character of Jacob himself.
