Hoards Evening An award evening and social for the 140 girls who have played in the YWMIA softball games in North Sevier Stake the past three months was arranged for the evening of July 31st at the First Ward Cultural Hall. Under the direction of Mrs. Bob Nelson, a buffet luncheon was served and a clever program presented by the girls themselves in a ball game atmosphere with decorations and high spirits. Ward sports directors, umpires, priesthood advisors and stake leaders were also in attendance. As the climax of the evening shining trophies were presented by Jay Christensen as awards to the following: Junior Division, First place was won by Salina Third Ward; Senior Division, First place was won by Redmond Ward; Participation Award (highest percentage) was won by Salina Second Ward; Senior Sportsmanship trophy (team chosen by the girls) was won by Aurora Ward and the Junior Sportsmanship Trophy by the Salina First Ward. All-St- ar Certificates were presented to Senior Division girls, Jennilee Larsen, Linda Shepherd, Lorraine Peterson, Kenna Magnuson, Debra Willard-so- n, Manon Mickelsen, Joan Curtis, Debra Stubbs, Michelle Robinson, Valerie Thompson, Jana Jorgensen, Roseann Mickelsen, Janet Okerlund, Madeline Wilson and Patricia Madsen. The players have given good exhibition performances well worth watching. An All-St- ar game is being arranged and will be announced soon. Royce Mason, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Austin Mason :of Aurora, received an award for driving 21,000 accident-fre- e miles in Vietnam. Royce drives a large truck supplied with ammunition to and from the battlefield. He Is stationed at Along Binh. Patients in the Salina Hospital during the past two-weperiod Ted Lee Sorensen arrived home last week from Vietnam. While serving with the 9th Infantry he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster for outstanding achievement in connection with military operations against ahos-til- e force in the Republic of Vietnam during the period December 1968 to May 1969.
