He was born in Salina January 30, 1894, a son of Absolom U. and Annie E. Murphy Williams. A veteran of World War I, he enlisted in the army April 12, 1917 and as a private with the 2nd Coast Artillery was sent to the Philippine Islands. He was discharged July 19, 1919. He married Coral Ricke in Salina, December 15, 1919. She died March 29, 1957. He is survived by one son and Lud-vigs- on three daughters: Grant L. Williams, Gunnison; Mrs. Ada May Hartle, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Hal (Doris) Memmott, Scipio; Mrs. Karl (Marilyn) Worwood, Levan; 15 grandchildren; 9 two sisters, three brothers; Floyd Williams, Thurland Williams, Salina; Mark Williams, Ogden; Mrs. Hilda Adams, Lay-toMrs. Ernal (Beatrice) Lorentzen, Shelley, Idaho. Bennett, Supt.ofthe Sevier School District announces the opening of a Speech and Hearing Clinic which is being sponsored by the school district. Services will be available at no cost to anyone with a youngster with a speech or hearing problem from the ages four and up. The clinic will get underway Saturday, October 12th and will be held each Saturday thereafter throughout the entire school year. Supt. The tasty beef and mutton will come out of the steaming hot pits at 11 a.m. and serving will continue through the evening hours. All the tasty foods that go to make up a complete menu will be offered with the barbequed meat. The event is for the public and is expected residents to attract not only the North Sevier area but people from surrounding communities and counties as well as a special event for visiting deer hunters. A beef and mutton have already been donated to the barbeque and it is anticipated that much more will be contributed prior to the feasting" time. Morris Curtis, First Coun of Hard tests selor in the ward and who directed the barbeque for the Salina Centennial celebration, is also heading up the meat preparation for the October 17th event. He stated the pit would be prepared on the Monday prior to the barbeque and the fires would be started the following day. Relief North Sevier Stake Society members are busy pre- paring for a Fair, to be held in the Salina Proceeds from the barbeque will be used to finance the ward. 2nd-3- rd Ward Chapel Extensive damage was inflicted to the two trucks involved in a crash at the intersection of Main and State Streets in Salina at 8 a.m. October 5th, but neither driver suffered serious injury. The accident occurred when the milk tanker, traveling north and driven by Farrel M. Atkinson, 26, of Kamas and a pickup truck, going west and driven by Chad Beach, 23, Salina collided at the intersection. Investigating were Police Chief Gordon Kiesel and Marshal Bar-de- ll Dastrup. They reported damage to the pickup at about $400 and $300 to the tanker. Dave Clarence Morandy, 48, Taylorsville, former Salina resident, died October 1, in Salt Lake City of cancer. He was born February 8, 1920 in Salt Lake City, a son of Clarence U. and Maine Rowe Morandy. He married Audrey Lietz, May 18, 1941 in Farming-ton. Mr. Morandy worked as acon-ductfor Denver and Rio Grande Railroad for 28 years, 14 years stationed in Salina. He was a veteran of World War n, serving in the navy. He was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors are his wife; two sons and two daughters, David C. Morandy, Dennis Lee Morandy, Claire L. and Susan Lynne, all three grandchilTaylorsville; dren; parents, Salt Lake City; sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Clark, Mrs. Clarice McClure, both Salt Lake City. Kathy Nielsen Breaks Hip Mrs. John (Kathy) Nielson fell October 6, while walking in Salina Canyon with her husband and broke her hip. She was taken to the Gunnison Valley Hospital and due to the seriousness of the break was transferred Monday to the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Lights Lighting of the Salina City the final stages following a work project October 2nd, Hugh Bird, chairman of the project for the Salina Lions Club, directed the setting of the eight poles with the assistance of specialized equipment from the Utah Power & Light Company. The equipment from the power company drilled the holes and then lifted the poles into place. Two power company men were hired by the Lions Club to handle the machinery and the equipment was donated. Tamping of the holes was handled by volunteers from North Sevier High School and Lion members. Lights were already placed on the poles before they were lifted into place. All that remains to complete the project is the installation of transformers on each of the eight poles and stringing of the primary power line. It is planned to have the lights ready to operate when the weather breaks In the spring. The lights are planned to be used for all recreational purposes including baseball, soft-ba- ll, horseshoes and anything that the people desire. A schedule will be prepared and clubs, church, communities and individual groups can apply for time and use the facilities. It is hoped a recreation program can be worked out to utilize the facilities at all times of the evening and this will be the goal when the planning schedule is being drawn. Jensen Funeral Home. tam. muMwjp Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Terry of Gunnison received a telegram October 5th from the State Department Informing them their daughter, Mrs. Louise Kay 25, had been critically burned and was In the hospital at Beruit, Lebanon. The following day a telephone call was received from Senator Wallace F. Bennetts office Informing the parents their daughter had succumbed to the burns. Details were lacking on the fire but it was stated Mrs. and her husband had Moustapha gone to a cafe for dinner and it was here the fire broke out the evening of September 28th. died from the Mr. burns October 3rd. An attempt was made to secure more information when the Terrys were informed of the fire and before their daughters death, but the language barrier and official red tape prevented direct communication. The office of Senator Bennett was contacted and through this channel the information was relayed. Louise was born in Salina November 20, 1943, the daughter of Cecil and Elna Shepherd Terry. She attended Cedar City High School and beauty school in Granger. was born in Mr. Lebanon and was a graduate of Utah State University in Logan with an A.B.A. degree in elec- 0 dren. were held October 3, in Sebastopol, California. Mr. Herbert, 70, a brother to the late Ernest Herbert, was born June 20, 1898 in Salina, a son of Charles and Martha Wells Herbert. He moved to Los Angeles, California in 1923 and in 1933 moved to Sebastopol where he owned and operated a large dairy No. 9 10, 1968 . |
