Flag Raising Ceremony June 14 Honoring Flag Day, June 14th, Scouts and Guide Patrol members from the North Sevier Stake joined in a sunrise ceremony at the Salina Post Office. The event was to point out to the youth the deep meaning of the Colors, and the many things The Flag stands for. Mrs. Jmes Mower, Primary president in the Salina First Ward was in charge of the event and also gave the address of welcome. Mrs. Arno Bastian, Stake Primary president, was a special guest. The short program included the group singing, America led by Mrs. Bastian; prayer, Kerry Mower; raising of the Flag, Jack Learning; pledge of allegiance, led by Kirk Learning; talk, Lane Peterson; talk, Kent Jacobsen; benediction. Shannon Heaps. Ted Learning, home on leave (from the U.S. Navy, was a special at the ceremony. Dee J. Balle Jr., a cadet ofthe guest Ely, Nevada Civil Air Patrol Squadron, recently was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Cadet Balle is the first cadet in the history of the Ely Composite Squadron to obtain this high rank. He was also the second cadet to obtain the rank of Cadet Major. This rank is for completing all eight achievements of Phase HI of the cadet program. Cadet Balle has been with the Cadets for three years, and has held every position in the Cadet Program. He has received the Billy Mitchell Award, Amelia Earhart Award, and the Certificate of Accomplishment; three high achievement awards in the cadet program. He has attended two summer encampments, acting as the Encampment Commander at the second of these encampments. He also holds Radio Operator, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense cards. Cadet Balle, the grandson of Mrs. Ruby Casto, Salina, a sophomore in the White Pine High School was also named to the Honor Roll. He received a 4.0 grade. Promoted To Lt. The final score was 9 to 5. Steven Keisel pitched the first six innings for the winners with Kurt Crane behind the plate. Brent Steiger hurled the final inning for Salina with Clair Madsen catching. Coach Joe Freece played his entire roster and stated they looked good, but needed a Uttle more confidence in their hitting. The British travelers will camp in Bryce Canyon National Park Thursday before heading for a two-da- y encampment at Jacob Lake, Arizona. They will return to Utah June 25 to camp in Zion National Park. Sponsored by the Wally Byarn Foundation, a organization, Caravan America was organized to promote a betterment of relations between the peoples of the United States and foreign countries, according to a foundation spokesman. Caravan members pay their own transportation to and from the United States, as well as all personal traveling expenses on the tour of America. House trailers, transportation and escorts are supplied by the foundation. The British travelers will turn over their trailers to a waiting French group in Santa Rosa, California. The French travelers will follow the same route as the British, but from west to east. 'The Universal Military Training and Service Act states that Guardsmen and Reservists must be granted leave upon request, said Richard W. Walters, Area Representative of the U.S. Labor Departments Office of Veterans Reemployment Rights. Walters said the Act also provides protection after separation from training: Upon prompt return to his job, the Guardsman or Reservist must be reinstated .with the same seniority, status, pay rate and vacation rights he would have had if he had not been away from his job.
