Show t t I BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham City, Utah Thursday, November 17, 1977 17 Academy membership retained by BC doctor Buzzing Bear River Town officials are elected here by Karen Christensen A new mayor and councilmen were elected last Tuesday by the citizens of town. The new mayor is Elmo Christensen with John Haws and Robert Nelson as councilmen. Outgoing mayor is Lee Johnsen with councilmen Neil Nelson and Chester Christensen. Vote counters for the election were Dolly Iverson, Lurlean Anderson and Flossie Rams-del- l. The new jobs for the councilmen will be decided at a town board meeting after they are put into office. The traditional Veterans day was celebrated this past week with many different ways of letting our war heroes know that we care. In town, the DUP bell ringing committee rang the bell at 11 a.m. to help with the celebrations. The bell is situated at the elementary school, and you can hear the ringing in just about any part of town. This Saturday is education day at the Box Elder stake center. You can purchase tickets from Lee Johnsen. This is a very fun and educational day for all those who attend. Meeting Slated The Golden Spike Chapter of Utah Young Homemakers will meet Monday at the Bear River Elementary school at 3:30 p.m. Roy Braegger will discuss dif- ferent aspects of insurance. serThere will be baby-sittin- g vices available at 25 cents per hour per child. Everyone is invited to attend this informative meeting. Congratulations go out to Lynn and Jacki Barker on the birth of their new baby daughter. They have one older daughter at home to greet the new little one. She weighed in at 6 Arrow is earned by BC scout Curtis Hendricks . . . Arrow of Light Curtis Hendricks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glendon Hendricks of 74 North Ninth East, Brigham City, has received his Arrow of Light. He is a member of pack 222 and his Webelos leader is Lynn Hone. Curtis, 11, is a sixth grade student at Bunderson school. He has earned two gold and four silver arrows in his cub scouting, in addition to Wolf, Bear and Bobcat badges. He also earned six activity badges in the Webelos program. He has placed first in the Pinewood Derby and was a participant in Scout-O-Ram- a. County man pounds 8y$ ounces. They have not yet decided on a name. She was born on Sunday. Get well wishes are sent to Glenna Burt. She had surgery last week in the Brigham City Community hospital. She returned home on Saturday. Another get well wish goes out to Mickey Price. He had his tonsils out last week. The last report I had on him was that he was doing fine. Welcome Arrival Congratulations go to former members of town, Paul and Denice They Longhurst. brought a new baby boy into their family last week. They have chosen the name of Kade for him. He is greeted at home by two older brothers, Telly and Stock. Elmo and Kathleen Christensen accompanied by Dick and Nola Nessler and Carrie J. Christensen traveled to San Francisco, Calif, this past week. They first stopped off in Reno and then traveled on to their destination. They stayed with Varges family while there and attended Dees boys wedding. They reported that an interesting part of the trip was watching cotton being harvested. They didnt know that California grew cotton and they took a drive that lasted for six hours and that was how many fields that they saw in cotton. It was very interesting to them. Also attending the wedding from town were Phyllis (Dell) Holmgren and her mother Mrs. Bishop and her sister Helen. Town council is Thursday night for all those who are interested. It will be at the city hall. Anyone is invited to attend. The DUP held their meeting last Friday. There were 20 members present. Lulu Clayson gave a history and Mary Anderson and Lela Anderson read the lesson. There was a member of Marys family in the lesson so it made it quite interesting for those who attended. Welcome back wishes go to Jack and Alva Hardy they just returned from their mission and to Pete Nipkolaisen he just re- turned from his mission also. Mary Andepson traveled to Salt Lake City to meet her grandson Farley who also just returned from his mission. Ed Brangel has moved into the home vacated by Kelly and Sheila Burt and Mitzi Jenson has moved back into town into the home vacated by Ed. Welcome back to her, too. Dr. Otto F. Smith, Brigham City, has completed continuing education requirements to retain active membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the national association of family doctors. The Academy formerly was called the American Academy of General Practice. The requirements call for members to complete a minimum of 150 hours of accredited continuing medical study every three years.
