Show Deweyville Dateline BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham City, Ulah 16 Thursday, July 11, 1974 Park to be lighted, city council pleased Lake where the kids enjoyed swimming. by Mrs. Max Nelson council are City pleased with the way the Perry city park is shaping up this summer. The lights will be on the ball park and on the tennis court by this evening. A special class will be conducted tonight, July 11, on the tennis court by Richard Wight. Richard will give instructions on the skills of tennis beginning at 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. He especially would like to extend an invitation to the adults of the community to come and participate. This class will be conducted as long as there is an interest shown. If the residents of Perry show an interest in other recreational activities such as golf, instructions can be arranged for. With the improvements going into the park the residents are encouraged to get their full use from the park. Perry As greater interest more improvement forth. is shown will come Family Reunions Families are encouraged to hold reunions and outings at the park. There is no charge for the residents but reservations should be made through Glenn Weight, parks councilman, or Mayor Jay Matthews so other activities will not be scheduled on the same date. A sure sign of summer is the traffic headed for the Perry cannery. The fruit growers are now in the mist of their harvest with the sweet cherries and raspberries. Next week many will start in their sour cherries and apricots. As things look now the farmers can look forward to a good harvest. Lets hope the weather conditions will work for them. A large number of the residents took the opportunity of the long weekend to enjoy some camping, fishing and other vacation activities. Paul and Lois Burt and David and Shila enjoyed some fishing up through Bloomington, Idaho, St. Charles and stopped at Bear Nelson outing Mr. and Mrs. Max Nelson and children enjoyed an outing at Blacksmith Fork. They enjoyed a little fishing and alot of resting. Richard and Carol Dickey and family joined friends from Brigham City for an outing at Lake, Idaho. Bloomington While there they enjoyed doing some fishing. Their trip was marred on Thursday when Janine fell and broke her right arm. They brought her back to Brigham for and then went back to finish their outing. They will put a cast on it Friday. We hope she gets along and doesnt have too much trouble adjusting to her new cast. Sam and JoAnn Kunzler and daughters were joined by Deraid and Julia Waters and daughters and Myna Ellis of Brigham City. They traveled to Fish Lake to fish and then enjoyed Capital Reef Monument and did some hiking through the gorge. Retha and Floyd John vacationed through Wyoming last week. There they enjoyed doing a little fishing on the Sweetwater river and found time to do some rock hunting. Back When July 7, 1966 eight years ago. Perry Ward girls softball team emerged victorious, winning first place in the South Box Elder MIA tournament. Reports injuries received airplane indicate Jon is slowly improving. and Mrs. Zane Bishop Wheatley and children Janet and David are off to the beautiful Pacific Northwest for a weeks vacation with family members. Melanie Perry and Wynn Coburn also accompanied the Wheatley family to the Eugene, Ore., area. Mrs. Mark Wells and baby motored down from Soda Springs, Idaho, Sunday for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Zilles. Paul and Carma Spackman were in Lava Hot Springs on Saturday where they attended a company party. Paul works for Archibald Ford company in Tremonton. Hitching onto their camping trailers for a vacation trip to Ponds Lodge in Idaho are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Burbank and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Norr. The accouples left Sunday companied by Mr. and Mrs. Oleen Watt of Ogden. Mark Fryer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fryer, received his certificate of graduation from Burbank, and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Perry are now underway. Several other new the planning stage homes are-iand construction is expected to begin in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Heusser were Las Vegas bound as they left Deweyville Saturday morning. They plan to visit the Southern Utah parks enroute to the Nevada city. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Perry and children spent two days in Idaho last week on a fishing trip. Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Blackham and Mrs. Connie Dewey were in Salt Lake City Sunday to attend the blessing of the twin baby daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Blackham. The little girls were given the names of Micki and Teri. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Waldron of Arlington, Va., were also present. Others visiting with the Blackhams this past week were Mrs. Connie Nyman and daughter Christa of Cedar City and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jones and children, Greg and Connie, Elder Chad Johnson, Perry, has been selected to perform in the 1974 production of the Hill Cumorah pageant in Palmyra, Mr. and Mrs. John Patcyk 'have returned home again after spending the month of June vacationing to the East coast. They visited in Midlothian, Virginia with their daughtei Mr. and Mrs. and Robert Goodson and four grandchildren, Ron, Ken, Krista and Craig, for two weeks. N.Y. Johnson is presently serving an LDS mission in the area. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis L. Johnson. The pageant is acted on 25 stages on the western slope of the Hill Cumorah. Johnson will be assigned a position in the on from Nampa, Idaho. Released Friends of Lt. Colonel Kent Blackham will be happy to hear that he has been released from the Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, Calif., after spending the past ten months period in July. The pageant portrays scenes from the Bible and Book of Mormon. The director of the pageant is Dr. Harold I. Hansen, professor of dramatic arts at Brigham Young university, Provo. limbs and is progressing very well. The Ward Deweyville bishopric hosted a pancake breakfast July 4th on the church lawn. Another delightful tour was to Nags Head beach on the Atlantic ocean in North Carolina. Later they traveled to Pennsylvania to visit Johns parents for a week. She will visit in Rome with her brother-in-laand sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Barnes. Mr. Barnes is serving as the president of the South Italy LDS Mission. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Howell. His homecoming will be held in the Portage Chapel July 14 at 6 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend and welcome Timothy back home. Funeral services for Betty Rae John Wilson, 50, of Torrey were held in the Portage ward chapel Saturday. Burial took place in Portage. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wynn John and family Harris, Eliza Knudsen and Moyle Knudsen. large group of relatives attended the Halford reunion held in the Portage ward building Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Hoskins and family of Layton are spending some time at their trailer house in Portage during the summer months.
