Show Task Force First Step e- lUU County Names Study Director A director has been appointed and the wheels set in motion for Box Elder county's new study of the aged and their needs. Robert W. Sherwood, Jr., 24, until recently a student at Brigham Young university, was named this week as project director at a salary of $9,500. It will be his task to direct efforts in the $30,087 program aimed at determining needs of the countys elderly and designing service delivery systems. Sherwood who was hired by the county council on aging effective Oct. 1, will work with the board in naming from 15 to 20 persons to an advisory task force. Drawing on clubs, churches, schools and other segments of local society, the panel will serve in a study and advisory position through the length of the federally-fundeone-yeproject. Dee Lund, Box Elder stake president. al Juvenile Officer Named for County Judge L. Roland Anderson, senior judge First Juvenile Court district, announced Tuesday the appointment of Fred R. Silvester as probation officer for Box Elder county. Silvesters office will be located upstairs in the Box Elder County courthouse in Brigham City. Working with Silvester is of the Pauline Knavel who serves as deputy clerk of the court for Box Elder county. Silvester was born in Ogden and graduated from Ben Lomond High school in 1964. He completed two years of college at Graceland college, Lamoni, Iowa, and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in sociology from Central Missouri State College in 1969. He has had two years experience as a social service wurker for the division of family services in Ogden. Pauline Knavel, the wife of V. Keith Knavel of Brigham City, is a graduate of Stevens Henagers Business college and was formerly employed by Amalgamated Sugar company of Ogden and Amcor Inc. PDiiL of Ogden. Been Endorsed The opening of the Box Elder County office in Brigham City has been strongly endorsed by the community and highly supported by the court. It is being initially financed with federal monies granted to the court under the provisions of the Omnibus Crime bill. Local efforts have been extensive by government officials and others to have a e juvenile officer named for Box Elder county which in the past has received part-tim- e services of a man working out of Logan. Two months have been spent looking for some one qualified for the position. The office will utilize a variety of techniques and programs to meet the varying needs of families whose children are on probation to the court. The office will utilize a team concept in administering various programs. The local chapter of the American Red Cross is providing a place to live for the Euaristo Altamirano family but they still need food, clothing and bedding, according to Sue Gentry, chapter chairman. They have nothing left, she said. Persons wishing to help the Altamiranos with these items should leave them at the office. A rough estimate of damage was $5,000 to the house and $1,000 to contents, he said. Firemen had the blazOnder control in about 20 minutes and were finished at the scene by 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Bryce Scoffield told the that a little girl came running up to her husband and told him about the fire. He tried to get It out with a garden hose but it was too late. Mr. and Mrs. Scoffield are managing the Galaxle Motel which owns the house. All the Altamirano children except for two were home when the fire itarted. Mr. and Mrs. Altamirano were at the store. They have seven children with the oldest one being 10.
