Wells truck The Forest Service fire stationed at Promontory was giv-'e- n a thorough workout here Aug. 22 on its first fire. The truck was brought here less than a month ago and the one lesson everyone learned was that they must take time to learn how to operate it. Many of the r.ien and boys were awuy and the truck was driven to the scene of the fire by a girl. Boy Scouts who have received some training in its opera tion were on hand to help instruct the first available men in its op eration. The fire was believed to hflve started in the dry grass by the James Leland house ami a wind soon whipped it out of control, Mrs. Leland quickly alerted the neighbors and help was summon ed from Thiokol Chemical Corporation. who sent their large fit e truck and crew and J. D. Gun- district fire derson, warden, brought the forestry brush trucks from Howell, Tremonton and Brigham City. A forestry road grader parked at the Merlin Larsen ranch was brought intc activity to help Threaprotect nearby ranches tened by the raging fire in dry grass and soil bank lands were the Devere Stokes place (wheie the Leland's live), the Howard I Robinette ranch, the church and I1 school, Jay Brown and Dunne Wells ranches to the south and the Lyle Richman ranch on the north.
