Five thousand of the distinctive plates are now being manufactured by the license plate plant at the Utah State Prison, and will cairy the inscription, National Guard. The new plate will allow Guardsmen to cross lines maintained in case of riot, disorder or attack, and will mark vehicles which may be commandeered in case of an emergency, according to Major General Maxwell E. Every room is beautifully decorated for the holidays. A huge Chrismas tree has been placed In the hall and each youngster in the school has been invited to bring an ornament for the tree. The school is having a Christmas party for the youngsters, Friday afternoon, Dec. 20. Gifts will be exchanged in the rooms and there will be treats for all before classes are dismissed for the holidays. In charge of arrangements for the childrens party are Mrs. Eva Moore and Mrs. Jane Sergeant. Jayoeette Poster Contest Each child is having a chance to show, his or her artistic ability this week at Bunderson. Teachers Party The faculty at Bunderson school is planning a Christinas party for Dec. 19. Special to the News and Journal NEW YORK More and more people In Box Elder county are availing themselves of the new pension opportunities opened up through amendments to the Social Security Act. Women, who have become eligible at age 62, are streaming in at a rate much greater than was anticipated. It had been thought that more of them would wait until they reached 65, when they would qualify for larger amounts. Farmers, too, eligible for the first time, are filing for pensions In large numbers. The same Is true for professional people, now covered. Figures released by the Government show that pension payments of $274,000 a year are going to 393 retired workers In Box Elder county. Per person, they average $698. Wives of these workers, qualifying at age 62 or over, are collecting an additional $56,000 annually. The amounts are at the rate In effect at the beginning of this year. Checks are also going to widows, parents and children of deceased workers In the county. In all, 755 local residents are getting pension checks totaling $424,000 a year. The amount Is 21 5 percent higher than a year before, when it was $348,000. This is a greater increase than was reported for the United States as a whole, 17.2 percent.
