Show f r 4 6m JOURNAL K13er Brigham City. Utah Friday. October 10. 1952 have listened with some amazement to the uninterrup- ted flow of campaign promises made by my opponent so far in this campaign. 1 have noted, too, the simi larities between the Mayor's proposed program and that of the National Administration, particularly in its attempt to obtain effecient government by creation of new departments with ever increasing overhead and personnel. My promises have been different. When faced with the scandalously inefficient operation of the Utah Liquor Commission a product of the last state Democratic Administration I demonstrated that honesty in government can remove corruption and scandal. And here are the facts to prove it: In the last three years total expenses of the Liquor Commission have decreased $328,278: gross earnings have increased $1,126,821: and employee salaries have increased about 22 per cent. Sincerely, , Paid political advertisement by Mrs. A. M. Gurnea, Salt Lake City. z i Box Elder Blood Runs Deep Protecting Freedom Elder county contributed its share to the survival of America with the blood of its youth? Yes, and much more, according to statistics gathered by Brigham City Judge B. C. Call. Utah in general and Box Elder county in particular has paid dearly for the right to live with individual dignity, and honor In an atmosphere of freedom. B. C. Calls figures show that the names of 24 Box Elder county men, who - died in World War One, are engraved in the soldiers monument on the court house square. Box Elder men Ninety-nin- e made the supreme sacrifice In War Two. This includes the four sons of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Bergstrom of Thatcher, which has a population of less than 300. While the nation as a whole lost one man out of about every 400 people in World War Two, Box Elder county lost one man for about every 200 people, Just twice the sacrifice. In World War One all military services lost 126,000 and in World War Two 396,637, not counting wounded of course. In the First World War Utah, with a population of 550,310 lost 302 men; Arizona, population 499,261, lost 150 men; Deleware with a populaton of 266,505, lost 87 men; Puerto Rico, population 1,869,255 lost 11 men; Alaska, population 72,524, lost 15 men, and Hawaii, population 423,330, lost 13 men. Judge Call did not have similar statistics for War Two. :;EM JEEDS Its real sport to bag that deer but what a job to take care of it. Thats what were in business for.
