Twenty elk of either sex were authored to be taken In Rich county adjacent to farm lands. ' This hunt was staged as a control measure In areas where elk had left the mountainous areas to come down and feed on farm crops. Other himts of this nature are to be held In several other sections where deer and elk are causing damage to agricultural lands. These special hunts are participated In by those sportsmen lucky enough to have their names drawn at the public drawings. Of the twenty elk authorized to 'be taken, nine have already been bagged. The first lucky hunters began coming from the hills early Saturday morning, Jesse W. Wulf of Corinne, was among the r.imrods who were first to bring their elk out. Unusual among the hunters was the handicapped veteran of World War II, Ed Rawley, a student of the U.S.A.C. game management division. Rawley bagbull Sunday ged his evening. The war veteran has remodeled his own rifles, and made adaptations upon them that make It possible for him to handle them with greatest 6kill and dexterity. Other Hunts to Follow The East Nebo hunt, which Is another hunt to be held as a measure against elk will be started Saturday, August 19. Following that, the Mantl Mountain will be hunted from September 30 to October 8.' The first deer hunt to be held in the 'state will ' be a special hunt in Browns park from September 16 to 21. The special elk hunt and the antelope hunt will also be held in that same area during the same period. All of the thoroughbreds in the county are being groomed for the event and will be shown in both mens and ladies saddle classes. A special feature of the show will be a demonstration of the increasingly popular Shetland ponies, directed by Harold B. Felt of Brigham City. Twinkle, owned by pilly Long, and Honey, owned by Charles are expected to be in the show with possible entries by Bill Rockwood and Wm. Parsons of Brigham City, and others along with Mr. Felts horse are urged to enter ponies, a registered Shetland stallion named Silver Manes Magic Larigo and a mare named Belmars Ebony Queen. , The stallion took first place in the Shetland pony class at Twin Falls recently and fourth place in the harness show pony class and the mare took second in the Shetland , class and third in harness class. The ponies will be shown by boys and will be Judged largely on the handling and Ponies must not exceed 47 inches in height and must walk and trot on a halter lead as directed. Each rider will be required to show the pony on the halter, saddle and bridle the pony in the ring and ride on three regular gaits. Classes include harness show pony class and saddle pony class. Prizes or trophies will be given for best entries. Breeds of horses recognized in the Tegular lorse classes will be quarter horse, American saddle and thoroughbred.
