These presented to show Not recognized Society Editors A most SCRATCHPAD Its always nice to receive a thank-yofor nothing really special, and a call thanking this writer for an article helped to cheer up an otherwise nothing type of day recently. It brought on the realization of how often we forget to thank folks for the everyday services and kindness they extend. Its kind of like the family that worried that their little boy had never spoken a word until he was five years old and then This announced at dinner, tastes awful! His family responded with surprise that he could speak, and he just explained that he hadnt talked before because everything had been all right until then! But have you ever noticed at home how hubby and kids never thank one for having plenty of socks rolled and in the dresser drawers, but always raise a terrible fuss on the day that all the socks are still in the dryer or laundry basket? It makes one realize how seldom we thank hubby or the children for hanging up a coat, cleaning up a mess, putting away a game and other everyday actions but are so quick to call attention when the same acts are NOT performed. u . Ordinary Acts So it could be nice to make an extra point to thank people for the extra their ordinary acts friendly clerk, or the one who checks about an exchange, or sees if other items are in stock. We so often jump on our public officials for the acts that we don't like, but seldom say thanks for all the things that run smoothly from day to day. We complain if the garbage cans blow down the street, but dont notice that the men carefully placed a smaller plastic one inside the metal one on another windy day. We notice when a coworker is grumpy or late, but forget about all the days of cheerfulness or overtime help. Lets say thanks to Donna Gordon, retiring from the Board of Education ; to Glenn Bennion, retiring as county treasurer; to and John Mac Young Holmgren, retiring as county commissioners; and remember that a appreciation of everyday performance can really mean a boost in morale. In fact, from the boss it can even mean better work and greater efficiency on the job from a worker rewarded with thanks and praise. So go thank somebody! of tragic aspect children is that the youngster's handicap often is not recognized by the victim, by his parents or by his teachers, according to the Beltone Crusade for Hearing Conservation.
