mines in no part ot of utah says he la is there yr greater creater eater promise ot of phenomenal copper mines being added to those that are now making utah famous the sierra madre district has during 1905 and made great strides in proving itself a region of bonanzas especially so in the napoleon and maghera machera gold and copper property some capitalists residents of iowa it illinois california and utah are the owners of the napoleon and maghera machera group for almost two years these men have bare been opening this property and it way may now be looked upon as one of tho the phenomenal copper mines of the country those who have visited it state that there are two copper bearing arodes upon it that are each from 10 to 30 feet in width and each extends through tho proper property ty for a instance jt feet a third vein to the two just mentioned and aad this is lor for a distance ot of 1800 feet shows an outcrop of copper ore seldom found in tiny mine the property properly Is a little over a mile in length and a halt mile in width these lodes are exposed along the sides ot of a steep mountain overlooking salt lake valley and a s elsiem ast em of tunnels now being driven en on these veins will cut under the east end of the lodes to a depth of about feet something over 1000 feet of tunnel work has already been carried out at different workings on the property and about tons of ore Is now exposed in these different workings on the group the ores are chiefly copper sulphides sulp hides predominating and in the deepest parts of the present workings is also present in considerable quantity the physical condition existing in those these immense lodes show a tonnage that a large body of workmen could not exhaust in a 30 years added to the quantity continued on page the foot of the mouri tain only a few thousand feet from the mine an eminent mining man who has recently visited the property says that it is easily the most remarkable example oi of enormous ton tage to be found in utah or a adjoining coln states the present management Is pushing work uan this group a of mines as rapidly as possible don maguire Magu lre when last spoken to stated that the company expects to have the mine producing bars within 18 months as the ores of the napoleon and maguire group contain considerable values in gold silver aswell as copper the output of cf atle mine will be worked at an excellent profit the other mines of c sierra ma re e district that are being pushed ahead are the eldorado also the santa maria there are still others of merit but these are the chief properties now attracting attention in some respects the santa maria is the equal of the napoleon and the maghera machera Ma ghera and promises to become its competitor in the production of copper ores besides which it carries through it a large part of the eldorado silver lead vein e 3 the eldorado property is now being considered by a powerful syndicate and should the deal be consummated there will be a large force of men employed upon it during the coming summer it t is not gere generally rally known that a reduction plant 13 now under construction st floa in sierra madre district this being built near the utah hot springs spring its ore will be drawn from sierra madre district and also from idaho nevada and wyoming A certain railway corporation oi of national importance is now giving its support to this undertaking as a con side rahle jalae or of te ores to he be treated at the new sierra madre plant plan will come from along its lines sierra madre district will thus be enabled to favor its properties with two markets one below salt lake city and the other at its own door when we call to mind the fact that within tour fou years the district should turn out tons of ore per day it may reasonably be expected that much larger plants than the one now being built will be called for within the next two years sierra madre district covers a large era of country it is fourteen miles in length and about seven miles in width and within this era mines ot of sold gold silver lead copper iron and zinc occur the copper interests alone are sufficient to make it one of the very important mining regions oi of utah and following immense wealth of oe f copper found here the silver bearing lodes present hitherto unknown wealth sufficiently extensive to make the district
