Show v In April Honor Society Names Bear River Students Education Experts To Evaluate BRHS Bear River High school students, administrators, and faculty are looking forward with a great deal of enthusiasm to April 3 and 4 as one of the important dates this most school has experienced in the last years that it has been inexistence, according to an announcement made this week by principal, Dr. Darwin Woodbury. He said, on that date, the school will go through its first Northwest Accreditation evaluation by a group of 40 experts. Many area residents, I am sure, dont realize the great importance this event carries, let me elaborate: 51 on-si- Measuring Sticks Standards of accreditation provide measuring sticks for the community to measure its school. Accreditation provides justification for public confidence in its schools .. it does not provide perfection .. only that it has the resources, the leadership needed for improvement. "Accreditation permits the school to become a part of the regional league of good schools, establishing a credibility that goes beyond local confines. Local Values And now what values are there in having an accredited school here in the Bear River valley? he continued. "Accreditation provides accountability that evidence of the school uses judiciously the resources at its command. It leads to the improvements of the school by its own self efforts. To meet and to exceed the standards requires total school involvement and a stout commitment to educational renewal. Being accredited means that the student who graduates from this school has high automatically passed this one requirement and will be admitted to nearly any college or university in the U.S. Three Phased The evaluations are three y phased. First is a complete during which the school has evaluated itself in regards to its effectiveness. A group of seven lay persons were asked to help in this area and was chaired by Mrs. Don Edvalsen. Committee members were Mattie Callister, Audrey Bair, Larene Napoli, Frank Stevens, Harry Gephart, Don Southwick. The second phase is the evaluation, and the A candlelight ceremony was held at the Bear River High school recently where a group of junior and senior students were named members of the National Honor society. They were also judged on character, leadership in school and service organizations of which they are members. Junior students receiving this honor were Patsy Barnes, Becky Christensen, Mitchell Karen Starr, Donna Stenquist. Get Certificate Larkin, They were each presented with a certificate, a membership card and a gold pin.
