Show Local Budget Tight Brigham City has adopted an ordinance which will give police a firmer hand in patrolling local school areas. The measure which gained the endorsement of Police Chief Jay Christensen and the reported backing of City Judge Robert Daines, was adopted by the city council with relatively little discussion Thursday. It had been under study by the council for a couple of weeks. Specifically, it provides this: It shall be unlawful for any person during regular school hours or during scheduled extracurricular school functions or proceedings, to park a vehicle, loiter, or idle in or about any public school grounds or building within Brigham City, for the purpose of, or resulting in, inducing a student or students to leave such scheduled school classes, function or activity, or for any unlawful purpose. We have something here we Chief live can with, Christensen stated. City Attorney Omer Call said he had talked with Judge Daines and he described it as workable. Running Close In other business, Mayor Ole Zundel said a budget report shows the city is running close in its finances and he advised department supervisors, all of whom were present at the weekly council session, to be careful of overtime "especially for the next 60 days. The city is faced with pay for its new $40,454 fire truck within 30 days and other expenses associated with this time of year have been heavy, the mayor explained. He said supervisors who have put on extra men during warmer weather will just have to let them go. Salaries continue to pose the greatest burden on the city treasury, Zundel said. Of an anticipated $106,899 which the city expects to receive through federal revenue Zundel Mayor sharing, reiterated a desire to see initial funds used for park, improvements. I believe that by the end of next week, it (revenue sharing measure) will be on the Presidents desk and no delay is he told the anticipated, council. Road Fund Carryover He announced also that with an estimated $14,000 carryover, the city will have about $53,000 to spend on a collector road project between now and next Aug. 1. He said two priority projects still remain on a five-ye- program under the state's gasoline tax setup for collector roads. These include Sixth North and west Forest street. authorized The council Associates Hansen and engineering firm to prepare cost estimates on these projects plus resurfacing of Sixth East. Mayor Zundel said it would be well to study the possibility of doing the Sixth North work, east of Main, in conjunction with a special improvement for curb and gutter. district Pedal to help fight cancer! Also, any municipalites that wanted, could band together and use the tax revenue for a common purpose, such as a swimming pool. And an agreement could be worked out with the school board on a swimming pool project, Call explained. Mayor Zundel said he would wait Calls opinion in written form before calling a meeting on the subject with county and school officials. The council authorized $250 for materials to fix up buildings at the public works yard, structures that were moved there when the city purchased the old Best Way Builders property across the street from city hall. Watershed Hansel Valley district officials have called a to explore meeting possible solutions to several problems experienced in the Box Elder county farming and range area. The session, to which the public is invited, is scheduled at 2 p.m. in the Bear River Valley Oct. Senior 12 Citizens center, downtown Tremonton. Purpose of the meeting, according to directors, is to from interested individuals, special .Interest groups and government hear statements agencies concerning problems and suggested solutions within the district. Hansel valley is located about 25 miles northwest of Tremonton and has 35,000 acres of dry cropland and 73,000 acres of range. Soil erosion was pictured as one major problem by Virgil Francom, chairman of the board of trustees. Removes Topsoil High concentrations of water from snowmelt and summer storms on the long, steep slopes creates gullies and removes the best topsoil from the cropland fields, he explained. He pictured vandalism as another continuing source of irritation and loss. Bullet holes in water tanks, grain bins and tractor tires are common. In addition, vandals break and cut fences and drive across newly planted fields. Francom said range cond-tion- s are generally fair to good but a lack of water facilities inhibits the best grazing distribution by livestock. Central Upland game bird and big game populations also are limited by the absence of inadequate water. Among proposed solutions is construction of level floodwater dikes along the upper slopes of the cropland to intercept and store runoff water from higher rangeland. Francom said systems of level terraces could then be said Visual screening of preschool children Is very Important, because a childs vision central develops gradually through the first six years.
