THERE ARE MANY ARGUMENTS and advantages expressed by proponents. Chief among them, we believe, is the efficiency with which the constitution can be improved while maintaining the same safeguards and voter review as present sectional changes. The Gateway amendment has the endorsement of the mayor and council of Brigham City, Gov. Calvin L. Rampton, former governor George D. Clyde and one of Utahs most conservative figures, Dr. Ernest L. Wilkinson, president of Brigham Young lf After the full day of teaching, in which there is barely time for necessities, he finds himself faced with helping students, locating missing items, meeting with students with special problems, or with their parents preparing charts, arranging for books from the library, posting bulletin boards, not to mention the student papers which need correcting and recording. university. The existing requirement for having been a citizen for 90 days and a resident of the voting precinct for 60 days would be abolished. In presidential elections, a citizen could vote for a president and vice president, but not for other candidates, on proof of 30 days residence in the state. However, the state legislature must have thought the plan had merit, voting to place it on the ballot. Voters should give it full consideration before making up their minds. Voters! Know Your District v Many Box Elder residents may have forgotten that reapportionment five years ago revised the boundaries of the countys two legislative districts. As now composed, District No. 53 is represented by all of Brigham City and Mantua. The remainder of the county makes up District No. 54, including communities like Willard, Perry, Corinne, Honeyville and Bear River City which used to vote with Brigham City. Its important to be aware of this now with election of two new state representatives coming up Nov. 3. IT EXPLAINS WHY voters in the south county area will have a choice between two candidates from Tremonton in the north. Geographically and in political tradition, they have been apart but now are drawn together by the reapportionment. The boundary lines were altered in September 1965 to create districts comparable in terms of population, a move ordered by the 1965 a "' PROPOSITION NO. 3 would permit Utah income tax laws to define rates, amounts 'or procedures by reference to federal tax laws. Exceptions to federal provisions could also specifically be made by reference and there would be no copying of federal laws unless the Utah legislature specifically so directed. Simply explained, its an effort to bring computation of federal and state income taxes into closer harmony instead of having two divergent systems. ! Ask the woman who owns one : a modem GAS dryer. Because of the speed of drying my familys clothes in the gas dryer, had the extra time to become a coach. It cost a little bit more in the beginning, but the maintenance and the cost of operation are less than the other kind. Im sure weve made up the difference in cost already and we have owned it for less than a year. |
