THERE g Gunnell for Governor Editor: The coming session of the State Legislature should be one of the better ones in Utah history, as we have some outstanding men in both the Senate and the House. The men from Box Elder county are of especially high caliber - the kind of men we need in politics to have good government: men of honesty and integrity in public affairs. Another such man is Franklin Gunnell of Logan, newly elected Speaker of the House. The majority party did well in its choice of him for this key posi- tion. Mr. Gunnell is a devoted public servant who would be an excellent GOP candidate for governor in 1968. The Brigham sugar factory December 29, 1916 was forced to suspend operations on Tuesday last because of lack of beets. There are several thousands tons of beets in piles at the various beet dumps along the railroad but because of the storms and deep snow, it has been difficult to get them loaded onto the cars. Supt. Edwards states that the machinery will not be set in motion again until there is at least a weeks run of beets in the sheas. Several cars of beets have been unloaded during the last two days and if the supply looks good by tonight, the factory will start up again in the morning. The factory was getting low on coal at the time of the shutdown but that trouble can easily be overcome. It is beets that are wanted right now. 30 Years Ago December 29, 1936 Mr. and Mrs. Glen Marble and Miss Iris Schow of this city left Friday for a visit to California. Because of them, the Utah Society for the Prevention d of Blindness will be able to sustain its many programs for saving sight. This could not have been achieved without the assistance of the many volunteers who gave willingly of time and energy to prepare and carry out the "Sight-Savinactivities. Nor would it have been possible without the help of the Box Elder Journal in bringing the vital need for prevention of needless blindness to the attention of the people of Brigharri City.
