Show M Anemia indicates Deficiency Of Blood Quality or Quantity - (The following is one of a series of articles furnished by the Utah State Medical Asociation in cooperation with this newspaper.) Anemia is a rather broad term which means a condition to which the blood is deficient either in quantity or quality. H POOR QUALITY blood may consist of a reduction in the amount of hemoglobin or a reduction in the number of red blood corpuscles, or both. In general anemia, there may be one of several causes such as imperfect nutrition, wasting disease or direct loss of blood from a wound. Anemia is marked by a paleness of the skin, loss of energy, palpitation of the heart and heart murmurs, along with other general symptoms. Anemia can be either a disease itself or it can be a symptom of r pllT ' 14 Coast Guard Thus some other disorder. and resorting to patent medicine to correct tired blood or "borderline anemia is almost always useless. Only a thorough physical examination by a physician can deterimne whether the patient actually is anemic, and, if so, what is causing the anemia. Only after such an examination can proper treatment be started. AS A DISEASE, anemia is sometimes treatable, but it is difficult to cure. Some different types are pernicious anemia, asplastic anemia, Cooley's anemia and the blood problems which involve the Rh factor. The patient with such problems, with proper therapy at the proper time, may well live to a full life expectancy.
