Show NEARLY $1.5 MHUON HIGHER Low Canal Bid of $3.1 Million Exceeds Engineers Estimate A Spnngville firm. Strong company, last week submitted the apparent low bid of $3,173,328 for completion of the Willard canal. The bid. one of only two received, was nearly $1 5 million higher than the engineer's estimate of $1,739,886. Only other company to submit a canal proposal on the project was Gibbons & Reed Construction of Salt Lake City and Ogden. Its bid was $3,451,346. The bids were opened at the Bureau of Reclamation office in Ogden Thursday morning. Volume 65, Number 29 Idaho Woman Harold BUREAU spokesman Dean said the bids would be forwarded to the regional office at Denver for review. It was pointed out that previously, bids were rejected on the Lay-to- n canal when they far exceeded are the estimate. Specifications and bids will being again be called, probably this autumn. The Willard canal is partially completed and the bids opened Thursday were for final work. Pilot excavation has been done on eight miles of the waterway which diversion will connect Slaterville dam with the giant Willard reservoir. Mrs. John R. Reeder, 73, reportedly suffered compound fractures of both legs, severe right arm injuries and shock. She was said to be in critical condition at Dee Memorial hospital in Ogden Monday afternoon. Mr. Reeder, 79, driver of the car, suffered shock and bruises in the mishap but was not hos- A $43,540 bid, submitted by a local construction firm, has been accepted to fill in some of the gaps of Brigham Citys sewer line collecting system.
