There was a wind blowing, nothing like last year, but it stirred up a little dust and tonight'yours truly will have to wash I behind his ears. The program came off in fine fashion with my friend Bernice Anderson in the front harness. L. D Wilde and Sam Gordon got the spike driven although Sam hit it too hard one time and the jumped up and turned over. ur Next to Bernice, haven't seen anyone so hepped about preserving the site as was Dr. David Miller, my old history professor from the University of Utah. Says Dr- Miller, everybodys got to give support to make the summit a national monument before the centennial year. They included professional looking people and youngsters and there was just as wide a variance in the equipment they carried. This HIz-zon- er recalled the days when as a boy he herded sheep in that area. Said he didn't care too much for that, though. Too many snakes and he was just a little fellerWhen we reached the monument side, he pointed to the ramshackled school building, standing weather beaten and brown, and related how they used to hold dances there every Saturday night. This was later when he was in high school and everyone would come from miles around. Hizzoner says they used to push back the benches and dance up a storm to the acband. companiment of a three-piec- e Trouble was there were more guys than gals and to get a dance meant you didn't tap another feller on the shoulder, you punched him in the eye. - Years Journal ' Ago At a meeting of the Board of Education yesterday contracts were awarded for the building of school houses in Willard and Bear River City.
