Commissioner Robert J. Potter stated that the Mental Health program is being operated on a regional basis, comprised of Rich, Cache and Box Elder counties. He said that school districts in the Cache and Rich areas are contributing 50 percent of the amount of their respective county budget appropriations for the program. He said that Box Elder countys budget appropriation is $2,800, $800 of which is received from gifts. The commissioners asked that the school district participate with the county by providing 50 percent of the stipulated amount. The matter was tabled for further study by the board. Mrs. Beth James asked board members to provide remedial reading at the Park Valley school. Her request was taken under advisement for further study. Board members accepted an offer from R. A. Christensen to trade property adjacent to the Bear River City school site. The trade involves a piece of land 165 feet by 165 feet, owned by Christensen, and a piece of land 100 teet by 165 feet, owned by the school district. A committee comprised of Milton D. Garfield, Supt. Walter D. Talbot and John Olsen was appointed with power to act after investigating the proposal. Consideration was given a proposal to provide water for the Bear River High football field by Garland procuring water from City, rather than by the pressurized canal water system now being used. The board asked that a study be made to compare costs in the two systems. Construction began on building. Aug. 22, he said. Upon recommendation of Supt. Talbot, board members authorized employment of a music and fine arts consultant for the district and ordered that applications be accepted for the position. The post will be a supervisory status to assist in coordinating and improving the music and fine arts program in the district. The board further approved employment of accompanists for the vocal classes on a continuing basis. Joan Archibald was employed as accompanist for Bear River High school and employment of an accompanist for Box Elder for further High was delayed study. The board accepted the annual financial report of the Box Elder County School District and orderin the ed that it be published Leader at Tremonton. A report given by Supt Talbot on the remedial reading program conducted the summer during months revealed that 45 students to tenth ranging from second grade had participated this year. A fee of $10 was charged for each person and Mrs. Cora Vavricka was instructor for the course. He also reported that the summer speech clinic had served 28 students. David Hillier was instructor. Parents of the students had recommended that the class be held each summer on a basis, Talbot said. SUPT. TALBOT told board members that clearance has been received on the contract with Reid L.
