The officer, Thomas Sneddon, 38 South Second West, suffered bruises and a cut on his head after several men struck him. The incident followed a dance in the church recreation hall attended mostly by itinerant farm workers of Mexican extract. Sneddon was called to the scene as the dance was letting out about 11:40 p. m. After arriving, he lot was asked to the parking where there was talk of a fight. THE POLICE officer said he took one of the agitators to his patrol car and returned to talk with Father Joseph Clark of St. Henry's church. A bottle was thrown, nearly hitting the two, and Sneddon attempted to take the man responsible into custody. However, as he turned around, one of the crowd hit him with a blackjack, knocking the policeman to the ground. And after he got up, several other men attacked him, one throwing a bottle that opened a cut over Sned- dons right ear. A fellow officer, Jay Herbert, arrived and after seeing what was happening, radioed for all available units. Within minutes, other city police, highway patrolmen and deputies of the Box Elder Sheriffs department were all at the scene. HOWEVER, in the meantime, Sneddons assailants fled. Only one person was taken into custody, he being the man who was first placed in the patrol car. He was Leopoldo Garcia, 20, currently employed at Honeyville. He posted $10 bail on a public intoxication charge and was scheduled to appear In city court today, Tuesday. Board members took the action on advice from Supt. Walter D. Talbot who said the two additions would have to be ready for use next year. The school for Brigham City is the second to go on the drawing board this year and is planned for the northeast area. However, a site has not been acquired but the board is negotiating for land.
