Dear Editor Where in the world does time It hardly seems possible that go over half of my mission is gone and that I am on the down hill gi&de And as I realise this I get a guilty conscience that I havent wntten sooner after Especially reading the many wonderful let ters that are printed in the News and Journal each week Ir the past months I have labored m four towns My first assign mcnt was to work in Horsens, After spending Dtnmark three aod months there I my first transfer which was to Aarhus, Denmarks second hugest city This was my home I realfor the next eight months ly loved Aaihus My companions and I met many wonderful Dan- one-ha- lf OUR NEW STATION AT 704 So. A' i SlE t Utah Ful the highlight of my time in Aarhus was seeing a very fine man accept the gospel despite the personal persecution he received from family and friends Needless to say I hated to leave Aarhus, but the mission president had other ideas and I was transferred to Holding in the southern During my part of Denmark tune in Holding I had the privilege of woi king as branch president and I had the idea that I would be spending quite a lot of pme there But after two very sfort months I received my third transfer This time I was to take a little boat trip to aproximate-l- y 700 miles from Denmark My destination was the Faroe Islands The Faroes are owned by the Danish government and the fine people that live here can all speak tht Danish language However, they have their own Farotse language which they speak among The Fa-- 1 themselves prcferaL'y of raese people die descendants the old Danish Norwegian Vikings that came to these islands around 1000 years ago And many of the old homes are several hundred years old and are still in use But the signs of the modern world can be seen everywhere, nevertheless, the things that we at home are consider everyday necessities luxuries to these ptople Fishing is their source of living and income, and what terrific fishermen these people are I certainly am glad that fish was one of my favorite dishes before I came here, because we have plenty Meat is an imported luxury from Denmark or some other countries, and fruit ,and vegetables are equally ashaid to get At the present time we are en But joying the summer weather it is nothing like the warm, sun-- I shiny summers in Denmark and Utah Rain is common and can be expected anytime However we have plenty of daylight Yes, this is truly the land of the Midnight Sun It is light enough to read a book at any hour of the day or And by the 21st of June night it will be almost imposible to tell 12 the difference between noon and 12 midnight The missionary woik here Is much different than any other I have experienced during my mission The people are friendly as long as we don t mention the fact we are missionaries They are strong holders of the idea that faith in the Savior is enough for their salvation So when we come with our wonderful gospc1 mes sage it is hard to come in and talk with the Faroese people However, there have been several wonderful people that have thrown the hounds of tradition to the side and accepted the message of the Mormon missionaries I really feel that the time I am spending here on these islands is some of the best time of my mis sion to date It's a grand sight when the mailman comes with a bundle of News and Journals Since the mail connections between here and Den mark are not the best 1 usually re ceive the home town news about four to five weeks late And there are at least four or five that arrive at the same tune At times our room looks like the corner newsstand Nevertheless I am always surpused each time I read one of the papers, there is always something new and interesting to be found As othcis have previously commented my favorite part is the editoiiul And my complaint is There isn't an editonal every I was also time pleased to reud of the good coverage of the watei problem In closing I would like to expiess my thanks to the Clay boughs for sending the News und Journal to mt for the past 16 months And I am looking forward to receiving the forthcoming editions dur mg the remainder of my mission ' f I' ish people to whom we had the opportunity of showing the gospel Our Readers Write June fiyirmirfM lr 7 10x15 fits most 7 Denies, BunAk, NaJus, Olds, Mercuries, Pontut, llutlsous nre-y)- ys - MF 7 00 x a J BASIC Dunn Basic Training The 25 Clarence Richard and LaNita Stoddard Linebrink, Honeyville, boy June 26 Sam and Maria Bitsilie James, William R Dunn 38 South Sec- Bngham City, girl, June 26 Duane W and Thos Cutler ond West, Brigham City, completTremonton, June boy, ed recruit training June 23 at the Thomas, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San 27 Sampel N and Janice Rosalyn He is the son of Diego, Calif Roche Chournos, Tremonton, boy, Mix Adda Dunn The 11 week course included in- June 27 Dennis Lamont and Anna Lau-ra- l struction in all basic, military subMurray Higley, Mantua, boy, and jects infantry weapons 27 of trainning, June L'pon completion Orval Kurt and Ila Dalen Hownew Marines are assigned to a unit for further infantry training, ard Andersen, Brigham City, boy, to one of the many Marine June 28 Richard and Ellen Montis TayCoips schools lor, Brigham City, boy, June 29.
