D 1959 has been designated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion as that day which has in the past been known as POPPY DAY, and, WHEREAS on said day it has been the custom and privilege of American Citizens, in appreciation for the services rendered by members of said organizations in the past to honor the same by purchasing and displaying a poppy from said organizations so that the funds derived therefrom may be used in a worthy effort to look after and provide for the disabled war veterans. that NOW, THEREFORE be it PROCLAIMED Saturday, May 23rd, A. D., 1959, is hereby designated as POPPY DAY in Brighton City, Utah, and all of the residents of Brigham City are urged to support and cooperate w'ith the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in this fine undertaking. Instructed Beginners Classes for the beginners were under the direction of Marshall and Onsae assisted by Jack P. Allen, David Gilmore, Vernon Spencer, and Reese Whitaker. Scouts coming to these three classes worked on meeting the swimming test required for First Class. A total of 86 Scouts passed the test. In planning the swim school, the cooperation of Intermountain school was obtained through the efforts of T. Frank Coppin, district chairman, and Thomas Tofnmaney, superintendent schooL The over-al- l program was planned by John Burton, chairman of the district health and safety committee, and Joe E.
