Dr, Harmon said that Utahs entries have always been of excellent quality, and pointed out that in 1957, Sharon Garrett, of Judge Memorial High school was a national winner. The U. S. Civil Service Commission this week announced examinations for a variety of engineering positions now open. . Engineers interested in beginning a career in the development of water resources in the West are being sought for employment with the Bureau of Reclamation. The jobs pay starting salaries of $4,490, $5,430, and $6,285 a year and lead to specialization in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering. A new examination for design patent examiner is scheduled, with starting salaries of $4,040 and $4,980 per annum in the U. S. Patent Office in Washington, D. C. A background of training or experience in a field of architecture, industrial design, product design, applied arts, or graphic design is required for these jobs. The Bureau of Reclamation is also seeking student trainees in civil engineering and offer starting salaries of $3,495 and $3,755 per year. Vacancies exist in Bureau offices and projects in the 17 Western States. A new examination has been announced for engineering draftsmen for posititons in var ious Federal agencies in the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. Salaries range from $2960 to $5985 per annum. This week two new examinations were announced for engineers and scientists for filling positions in various federal agencies in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming.
