Show Box Elder Sugar Beef Harvest UniisarWUcrof liming Corp, is Scheduled to Star! on Monday Harvesting of the 1956 sugar beet crop in the Garland factory district of the Utah-IdahSugar company will begin at 8 a. m. on Monday morning, Oct. 1, reports Ford T. Scalley, district manager. With the- increase acreage that Is to be harvested, beets will be in storage for a longer period than has been the case in several years and it is imperative that all growers harvest beets in accord with the contract. that The contract provides free beets must be delivered from trash and other foreign matter in order that they can be stored properly for the future processing. As in the past, grow o - ers are also notified that frozen beets will, not be received at any of the pilar stations. Sugar beets will not be put into piles until Oct. 10, and until that date it will be necessary that the harvest be controlled to prevent an accumulation of early harvested beets. All receiving stations have been placed in excellent condition to insure a speedy and successful harvest. During the controlled harvest period from Oct. 1 through Oct. 10, growers harvesting beets will be notified at their respective stations as to the 'hours that the station will be open and the days harvest will be permitted. For further particulars, growers may contact their fieldmen, Scalley cautions all beet growers to keep a close watch on soil mixture conditions during the harvest period. With the high temperatures that have conditions prevailed, moisture must be carefully checked if maximum tonnages are to be realized. Severe losses in tonnage will result if attempts are made to harvest beets out of dry ground. Careful planning is required on the part of the farmer in coordinating his irrigation and harvesting to make possible higher yields. Scalley points out that the extended forecast prepared by the U. S. Weather Bureau indicates a below level precipitation during the month of September in this area. The fall preparation work for 1956 planting is now underway and all prospective sugar beet growers may secure commercial fertilizer from the sugar company warehouses by contacting their fieldman and securing the necessary order. In the course of fall preparation work, growers are advised to take advantage of irrigation water that will be in the canals up to the first of November, and irrigate all fields where residual moisture is at a low point. Past experience has indicated that full irrigation practices consistantly result in a better stand of beets, earlier thinning, and higher tonnages. A window had been broken out of the door leading to the cafe from the back porch, and the hasp and badlock had been pried off the door. Hampton stated that the culprit went to the front of the cafe, located a metal cabinet which contained the money, jimmied the lock of the cabinet, and escaped unnoticed with the Caravan Will Make Brief Visits to Ten Communities During Speedy Tour of State The Eisenhower band wagon, currently touring the state of Utah, will arrive in Box Elder county Friday and spend most of the day visiting this area it was announced this week by Republican Central committee officers.
