Show I 1 Mrs. Rhoda A. Conner Observes 85th Birthday At Home of Son, Thayer Conner, in Brigham Neighborhood Junior Circus Delights Kids Mrs. Rhoda A. Conner recently celebrated her 85th birthday at the home of her son, Thayer In the midst of the excitement of of the last of the the nation, two Brigham City youngsters ventured into the circus . producing business and made good. Barbara Jane Balls, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arden C. Balls, and Randy Nelson, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Winston P. Nelson, began circus plans early in the summer that materialized last Thursday evening, Aug. 2, between the hours of 6 and 8 p. m. in the Nelson back yard. Hours of preparation went into the advertising campaign and posters were posted on all available places in the Third and Seventh ward area. For a nominal admission fee, children and their parents entered the circus grounds, enjoyed a program and saw the menagerie. Wheft circus time rolled around dozens of animal cookies, some with free cookie slips inside, numerous lollipops, can and gallons of dy doughnuts punch were all ready and waiting for the expected throngs Neighborhood cats substituted for panthers, lions and tigers, frogs caught the eyes of many of the wee tots, a parakeet trio also held great interest but the hits of the show under the white big-towas the presence of a real honest to goodness snake, and Cleopatra, the tiny white goat. Kathy Kay Claybaugh com plete with top hat, black coat and boots, announced the pro gram for the evening as chil dren and their parents gathered around the three ring affair seated on chairs and blankets. Program included a baton act by Barbara Jane Balls followed by a scng, When Apples Grow on the Lilac Tree by Ann Stoner. the Randy Nelson delighted viewers with his snake act, complete, with water snake caught in the field west of townby his big-top- s CIRCUS TIME IS FUN TIME Many of the children pose for the photographer following the circus presentation. The stars pinned on the children were their tickets for admission to the three ring affair held on the Nelson back lawn last Thursday. Numerous parents also attended the circus but declined to have their picture taken. p, Ksf ATTENDANCE RECORDS RECOGNIZED Primary attenders, both pupils and teachers, were commended recently for perfect attendance records for 3, 2 and 1 years. Hans Knudsen met togeth- er at Liberty park in Salt Lake City, July 22, and organized their family. Named as president is Glen Knudsen, Brigham City; Mrs. C. M. (Blanche) Norton, Salt Lake City, vice president; Mrs. Edna Bell, Brigham City, secretary, and Mrs. J. J. (LaDine) Christensen, genealogist. Mrs. Calchera is the former Ellen Schow, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Schow, Brigham City Upon leaving Brigham City for a New York port they expect to visit for a short time with Sgt. Calcheras parents in Kentucky. They will sail from New York, August 27. For the past six months Sgt, Calchera has been attending an army language school studying the Portuguese language. During that time Mrs. Calchera and family have been visiting at the Schow home. Boss Plays Chef for Employees at Steak Fry Employees of Beehive Picnic Party Plans Prepared for Members -- Annual summer picnic party and program for Kindergarten club members and their husbands will be held Monday, August 13, beginning at 7 oclock at Rees Pioneer park.- General chairman is Mrs Doyle Packer with Mrs. O. Dee Lund as director member. Members are asked to call reservations to Mrs. Lund at 64 or Mrs. Packer at 1032. There will be no charge but it is necessary to know how many to prepare for, the chairman announced today. Those planning to attend are asked to bring their own plates, glasses and silverware. Decoration committee for the evening is headed by Mrs. June Nelson with Mrs. Alden Jensen as committee member. Coal and Appliance and their wives were feted at a steak fry and buffet supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. OrVal E. Sackett Thursday evening, Aug. 2. The party was held , on the lawn in the backyard at Sack-ettwith Mr. Sackett as chef. The employees presented the Sacketts with a barbecut at Christmas time and tasty steaks were prepared by Mr. Sackett for the group attending, initiating the gift. Mrs. Conner is the mother of nine children, six of whom are living: Charles and Thayer Conner of Biigham City; Jennings Conner of Anchorage, Alaska; William L. Coner of California; Mrs. Irene Davis of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Sidney (Viola) Platts of Paul, Idaho. At present she has 12 grandchildren and 21 She has held the office of Relief society president and lias taught Sunday school and Religion class. Also, she has written many lovely poems and short stories, and has made a hobby of gardening. Although she has been confined to her bed for the past year and a half, she still gets much pleasure from her children and grandchildren, and from the beautiful flowers that are grown in Brigham City. When she was ;ust a young girl, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of ,atter-daSaints. On May 18, 1891, she married William M. Conner and ten years later they were married in the Logan temple. They moved to Brigham City in 1915 and have made their home here since then.
