Show Relief Society Conference Held In Fourth Ward The annual Relief Society conference was hPhl Sunday evening Nov 6, in the Fourth Theme for the evening ward was "The Road To Peace Pre lude and jxxstlude music was played by Joan Richards. Opening song was sung by the congregation, "Master The Tempest Is Raging, and Lucy Wright offered the invocation Officers of the organization were sustained under the direction of Peg Rasmussen, secretary. The weicn"- - was given by Pearl Huns; , president Dora Grolt spoke on "Peace in the Home. The Singing Mothers sang O Lord Most Merciful under the direction of Ida Had-fieland accompanied by Joan Richards, after which Peg Rasmussen gave a talk on "Peace dn the World. Barbara Brown gave the scripfollowed tural reading, by Peace I Leave wilh You by the Singing Mothers chorus Bishop Clark M. Rasmussen made brief remarks. Phyllis Glover, representing the North Stake Relief Society board, gave a re port of the past years work of the Fourth ward Relief society Afton Olsen was also present representing the stake board A pageant was presented, en titled "By the Hand of Wise Men Our Freedom Was Gained The pageant was written and directed by Abbte R Madsen Those taking patt were Lyle Orme, Denney Beecher, Robert Knudson Brent Small, Mickey Harmon, John M,.son and Carl U V " i X3 5 M M ?!' The social hour begins at 3:30 p. m. and will be followed by the program at 4 Master award for his work with young His people. was the first honorary Master In award presented South Box Elder stake. n Lifelong Brigham City Resident to Observe 88th Year Nephi J Valentine, lifelong member of the Brigham City Second LDS ward, will celebrate his 88th birthday anniversary with open house, Sunday, Nov. 20, between the hours of three and five oclock in the Second LDS ward. No gifts are requested. Mr. Valentine is the only living charter member of the Second ward He was born November 15, of 1867, In Brigham City, son Valentine and Hannah Benson Valemtinsen Mr Valent unsen came to this country from Den mark in 1854 Mrs. Valentinsen arrived in 1863 As a youth he attended elementary schools and at the age of 15 freighted up into Montana During the building of the Lo gan LiDS temple he spent a summer working on the tern p. m. Mr. Valentines activities have not been confined to church alone. He Is, and always has been, an avid sports participant and fan and in civic affairs has served as county clerk, city marshall and served on the city council. In 1888 he married Sarah B. Merrell. They are the parents of five childen, one, A. E. Valentine, Bothwell, is still living. Mrs. Valentine diied in 1895, as did three of her children. In 1899 Elder Valentine left for a mission to Sweden for the LDS church and following his return in 1899, married Ottolina Bengtson in 1900. They became the parents of seven Children, six survive. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding amversary in 1950. Mrs. Valentine died in 1952. Their children include: Mrs. OPEN HOUSE Nephi J. Valentine will celebrate his 88th birthday Sunday with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Second LDS ward. R. N. (Grace) Price, Brigham City; Mrs. L. E. (Ruth) Durrant, Castlegate, Utah; Mrs. T. L. (Wilma) Broadbent, Riverside; Mrs. Heber G. (Erma) Jacobson, Ogden; Mrs. Paul E. Skeen, Ogden, and Lee B. Valentine, now presiding over the LDS mission in Argentina. There are 20 grandchildren and nine pie. His activities have been numerous in the LDS church. He has held nearly all capacities in the church including, counselor, bishop, high councilman and is now a patriarch. He was named patriarch in 1935. Many of the men in Brigham City are indebted (to Mr. Valentine for the fine scouting foundation he laid for them before the Boy Scouts of America was organized.
