Watkins, in We must work to put the employes at In the Indian on hisrapidly the feet, school Tues Utain Indian senator urged, so that he may assume all of the responsibilities and. advantages of white society." In the realization that employes desire permanency of position, the senator appealed to the audience to do a good job for the joy in it, not thinking ot their own future. He expressed the hope that a program may be worked out to award the employees for moving rapidly, such as a bonus, early retirement or a transfer to another government department. He said he intended to recommend such a program in Congress. Watkins related that there are still 14,000 Navajo children on the reservation who are unable to attend school because of no facilities. It has been suggested that as many schools as funds permit be built on the reseva-tion- , and that dormitories be constructed in white communities for the rest of the children and let the government pay expenses for them to attend white schools. 'As a member of the watchdog committee, it is the senators duty to see that the rehabiiita tion program is carried out. He was at Intermountain Indian school on an official visit. Impressed with Intermountain school, the senator said he will report how wonderful the school is. He is gratified with the schools cooperation with the towns people and of the way the towns people have received the Navajo children. The senator spoke early in the afternoon to an audience of Navajo students. He related that he had visited 32 high schools throughout Utah and that ,the students at Intermountain were most attentative.
