Herbert Hoover, who some years later was to slide to second base on the totem pole, gained considerable fame after World War I by feeding the Armenians and some other peoples without letting them starve to death while he was getting there with the food. Dave The Sheep Dog One of the features of the Peach Days celebration this year scheduled for September will be the performance of Dave, the Collie sheep dog from Collinston who recently starred in the movie, Bob, Son Of Battle and his owner and trainer Wynn S. Hansen, sheep man from Collinston, Friday night, Sept. 9, at eight oclock in Rees Pioneer park. This will be the first time Dave has performed for Box Elder county people though Mr. Hansen has had Dave in Texas and California performing for large crowds. The well trained Collie is also known through the movie he acted in. 0, Dave is six years old having spent two years of his life in Scotland and the other four on the Hansen ranch in Box Elder county. His father was an unbeaten champion in Scotland and he has a pedigree that can be traced back three hundred years. When Dave was shipped to the United States he understood English only in a heavy Scottish brogue. It took about six months, a lot of patient training and affection before Dave had adjusted to the new accent. Mr. Hansen tells of the time a Scottish fellow visited the ranch and talked to the He almost went wuld he was so hapdog. py to see a fellow Scotsman, Hansen said. There wras only one command, out of approximately 25, that Mr. Hansen was unable to change. Attledoo still means take it easy to Dave. Mr. Hansen explained that it was difficult to teach the dog the English version That Will Do because of the extreme ambition the dog has. The command had to be pounded into him in the first place because it was so difficult for him to sit down or slow down consequently it was too difficult for him to change. Dave, like all sheep dogs, has the natural herding instinct, Mr. Hansen said, and actually all there is to training them is teaching them the commands and to obey them. Mr. Hansen has been training sheep dogs in his from sheep raising for the last 20 years and has had his dogs perform in tnany of the celebrations in Utah. off-hou- rs NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION-ISOLA- TED TRACT Public Land Sale Darrel H. and Myrna Nelson Benson, Brigham City, baby girl, born August 26. FRNEST E. HOUSE, Manager. ALWAYS Nobody Has To Help Even your Bishop will tell you, its tough living by the Good Book. But he, and your fellow citizens, and most of all you yourself expect you to try. Take the story of the Good Samaritan. As we recall it, that is the first recorded version of the Old Army Game of passing the buck. I dont know him, said one, and passed him by. (Youll pardon us if we deviate from the actual quotations, and possibly even from the plot the spirit of the story remains.) Let his kinfolk and next-doneighbors help him, said another, without even pausing to determine if the victim of the misfortune had kinfolk or neighbors. And then there was the Good Samaritan. In two thousand years, in millions and millions of readings, no one has ever missed the point of that story, retold as it fell from the lips of the Great Teller of Stories. Possibly weve said, and certainly weve all heard it said innumerable times, Theyre campaigning us to death! Theres always a drive on, a campaign, a tap for some worthy cause or other. We cant help them all. We cant, it is to be hoped, help them all as we would like to. God grant that our hearts always remain greater than our purses The Infantile Paralysis campaign, the Easter campaign for the crippled children, the childrens hospital penny birthday fund, the Cancer campaign, the Red Cross, relief of needy and hungry peoples throughout the world all of these touch our hearts. More particularly, we want to help when those nearer at hand face trials and misfortunes so great that we know, instinctively, they are more than one person alone should bear. Every day, every hour we could find need. A millionaire could not do the bidding of his heart and help all such worthy causes that come to his attention. Still, we have no right to complain. For we dont have to give. We dont have to give to everything. We dont have to give to anything. Nobody knows what we are able to give . . . except ourselves. Probably nobody ever will know if we dont give . . . except you and me. If ever there was such a man as the Samaritan, surely he did not stop to ask himself, Will the neighbors know if I pass this man by? The story has been reenacted untold millions of times in the years since, and in very few instances does anyone know who lent a hand, who passed him by. Who is this mans neighbor? Only those w ho want to be and are able to be his neighbor. 323 South Mi Phone 56 (outv rOeo OFFERS tX) OF 100 bp VS OR CHOICE YOVU. ) jsy or ( OH IV FORD OFFERS 800V AH0 YOU VwGlC ACTiOm'bRAKES FRAME plus (where else can so lime PICTURE ew pfus S4 MORE Ri&D UF3UA9 WIHOOW'viSi8iUTY) you so much car ?)
