A patch- In one of my sport books, The Story of the Brooklyn Dodgers, there is an article about the famous Babe Herman. That little article is as follows: Babe Herman He was the worst first baseman that ever lived. He wasnt so bad at taking throws, but whenever the op-ponents got two men on bases Babe got hold of the pill, the1 players in both dugouts dropped down behind the concrete on the floor and hid, fans in all parts' of the field covered up in fear and fright, and the ground keepers hastily closed and locked the gates to keep the ball In the paik. Babe not only threw to the wrong base, but he never even He was once threw it there! credited with crowning a baseball fan in the top row of the bleachers in Philadelphia in an attempt to stop a runner going from second to third. I. would have liked to have attempt to stop a runner going seen that sight, just once. Every time I read that article I laugh all the harder. He must have been a real ball player (?). Another thing Babe was famous for was to catch fly balls on his skull, right between the eyes. He Is also credited with being the only man in baseball history to sock out a two base hit and have it end up as a double play. 1 played a practice game on Tuesday night at Rees Pioneer park. The final arrangqjients ,or suiting four baseball teams were made on the 15th of June and now all of the suits have arrived. The teams will play one game each week with the Rotary club opening the play, meeting the kiw'anis club on the evening of the 8th. The game will start promptly at 5 p. m. in Rees Pioneer park. This is a Monday night and this game as well as those to follow will travel seven innings or until the first complete inning after 6:30 p. m. All of the boys listed on the rosters are those not playing As American Legion baseball. soon as the Legion completes its state tournament which is now being played in Helper, they will be divided so that four boys will be on each of the teams. The league will not keep the boys from playing Legion baseball as it will be governed by American Legion baseball rules. Also those boys now playing leain the Senior Made-You- r gue can participate in both leagues if they so desire. .
