Show Golf Course Proves Success ' I shot a birdie on the three hole, made a long drive down the four fairway, sliced the ball in the weeds, and then hit the ball onto the four green with a three iron, and sunk the ball after two putts for a bogey. That is similar to the current language of a large group of Brigham Citys citizens. And if you wonder what grown men are doing down on the golf course killing birds, driving around between the holes, slicing balls up out in the weeds, smashing balls up with irons, and then puttying them into the hole, you just arent in the know." These terms, which to many of us are a mystery, are overwhelming proof of the success of the new golf course. There are ardent fishermen, baseball men, and tennis players in Brigham City, but the zealousness of the Brigham City golfers outshines that of any of the other sports enthusiasts. It is impossible to go through a days brousing around the city n without bumping inta a persons n other persons that are telling a that they shot a 42, 38 or a 98; that they hooked four balls into the weeds; that they would have made a hole in one if the hole hadnt been in a different place; that playing on the new course is wonderful. The course was recently described by Ernie Schneider, Ogden pro, as a tough course thats really fun to play, and the thousand odd people that have played the half-doze- half-doze- course all agree with him. The popularity of the recently completed course was proven during the first week of play when well over 500 people batted the ball around the fairways. Since that time several hundred more people, both experts and beginners that have never before had a club in their hand, have made the trip around the sporty nine holes. Not only is the new course going to add materially to the recreation facilities of .Brigham City but has already added to the landscape beauty of the town. By this time next year, the grass on the fairways will have filled in the holes and replaced : 'the weeds. Anyone approaching the city from the north or leaving the city by the same route will undoubtedly be impressed with the beauty of the course. Credit for the course goes to the Brigham City people, for they financed most of it through city taxes. But credit for originating the idea, and then pushing the plan until the course was built goes to the original committee consisting of Clair Merrell, William Griffiths, W. II. Stayner, L. A. Richardson, Chet Hamilton, Alf Freeman, Doug , Page " IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY 2 BOX EIDER Brigham City, Utah Wednesday, July 20, 1949 Crooks Fall Out adn Into Jail ELDEB BOX News-Journ- al (UP) Two burglars were seiped here because one tried to run away with all of the loot from a tavern robbery and the other conked him on the head with a crowDar to prevent his escape.
