" The Most Important Job The pat but certainly debatable statement is that Brigham City is overorganizIn our opinion, this is preeminently ed. untrue in the case of another new organization formed last week, the (Band Barents. There is need for a lot of such organizations. Other activities ordinal ily occupying parents time and energy might well be" sacrificed in favor of more important work that needs doing along this line. s It looks like youngsters can expect just about anything from their parents except a little time and attention, a little effort put forth in fields of common interest, demonstration of a desire to work with and participate with the youngsters in things the youngsters, themselves, are doing. How many dads go into Scouting when their sons turn 12 years old? A lot, true enough, but theres room for more. How many dads who worry about if and when their boys will find themselves, from a vocational standpoint, have taken the trouble to join their sons in exploring the opportunities various vocational fields afford a young man today? How many dads know their sons well enough, even, to know their aptitudes and interests? Not enough! No matter how wise or or successful we may be, were failures if our children are failures. Theyre the Number One job. We submit that the Band Parents, in joining hands and showing their sons and daughters that theyre interested in what theyre doing, that theyre ready to give a hand where they can, that theyre buck of them and boosting for them, are doing more for the young folks welfare than they could do by buying each of them a brand new d horn, or even bright new uniforms. The uniforms are important, too. But even if every project undertaken by the Band Parents should fail of achievement, theyve still succeeded in the most important thing of all. Theyve shown their children theyre interested, theyre with them! now-day- V' ' ,1 .) f f I hard-worki- p 4- 4 i V ov 4 , A call came from the high school yesterElvvvri. In consequence it begins to take on the appearance of something the cat dragged in. It is hard to define as an entity the Republican Party or any other large group of people, since however closely banded together all cannot think alike in all respects. But, speaking broadly, the Republican Party consists of men anil women who in firm conviction are opposed to the swift trend toward the omnipotent state that is sweeping over every section of the earth. Wheth-e- r it be defined as communism, fascism, socialism, the New Deal, the Insurance State, these men and women regard it as a thing of infinite menace, however cunningly, and however ardently supported by good and misguided people. But the Republican Party has lacked the courage to say what its rank anil file beliee. Out of hunger for the flesh pots it has lacked the patriotism, the loyalty, to stand up for the free Republic of the founding fathers and to fight for it. Due to that lack of moral courage, of loyalty to the American creed, the United States, almost the sole remaining bulwark against the aihaucing tide, finds itself without a spokesman, without a champion to proclaim and battle for its traditional, glorious creed. And it finds the foundations of its temple crumbling. The fact is known to all men. Here, too, in our own America the State is taking control and ownership of the people It is using the power to tax to destroy their independence and It is converting free men into vassals and dependents.
